For me... Redmond 6/10 - Shows glimpses of being good and has potential, no consistancy though and certainly not the next Thierry Henry. Hojbjerg 5/10 Same as above really but another midfielder that has absolutely no idea when it comes to scoring goals Boufal 6/10 Looks a fine technician and could be great but playing far too deep to hurt anyone as they all are 2 great goals tho McCarthy 5/10 Looked relatively assured in teh few games he's played Pied / Taylor - Havent played much /at all Thoughts?
Boufal: 7/10 going to be class. So skilled on the ball, not his fault we haven't got a forward who can help him. Redmond: 6/10 has show glimpses of what he can do, but needs to stop getting so hot headed. Is only young so hopefully can improve. Hojbjerg: 6/10. The guy is settling into a new league and shows it with being inconsistent. He is defensive minded so shooting isn't a big thing for him, even though I would like to see him improve. Rest haven't seen enough to judge.
Redmond 6/10 - Potential to improve, value for money. Hojbjerg 6/10 - The last six weeks have dragged him down from a 7.5 - he will be a great asset. Boufal 7/10 - Exciting player, as we get more adventurous he will improve vastly. McCarthy 7/10 - Like what I've seen so far, bad timing with injury.
Ratiings as of impact this season Redmond 5 potential but I struggle to buy into this central role Paul wants for him. Harshly treated by some fans. Needs time. Hojbjerg 5 one for the future. Has ability but is very average right now. Can see him flourishing in a couple of years. Part of a poor midfield. Boufal 7 obvious ability. Needs decent strikers in front of him I remain of the opinion that it was a very poor transfer window last summer. We lack a striker and an AMC and a CB all of which we knew in the summer. Redmond 5/10 - I do like his willingness to run at defenders but little seems to come of it and the mental side of his game seems lacking - his decision making can be truly awful at times and I really don't like his apparent attitude. He may still improve (although he's played quite a lot of games despite his young age) but right now he's not doing enough to justify starting. I'd like to see him used mainly as a sub so he can come off the bench to run at tiring defences. Hojbjerg 6.5/10 - Generally does a good job but has slipped a wee bit recently. Not his fault that we have too many midfielders who don't score goals. Is at least willing to shoot from distance, even if he isn't very good at it! Boufal 7.5/10 - Still adapting but seems to get better and better. A bit prone to trying one trick too many and the end product isn't coming consistently just yet but he looks very, very exciting. Taylor is doing what he was bought to do, Pied looked solid enough before his injury and McCarthy may get some more game time soon.
They're ****. All our players are ****, even the good ones. Sorry, this is the Pompey board, isn't it? Oh right. Then Boufal is the next Gaston, but may be a big step up; Hojbjerg is impossible to spell, and is highly inconsistent; McCarthy is going to save a penalty in the League Cup Final - he looks handy; Redmond is disappointing, but pretending he is the new Mane hasn't helped.
Hojbjerg- 7.5. I'm somewhat sold on him. I think he's going to be good. Just needs to settle in and find some consistency. Of course I felt that way at times about Clasie last year too, though. And I'm kinda losing faith in Clasie a bit at this point. Clasie is decent enough, just not sure if he'll ever be more than that. Hojbjerg has some physical tools that Clasie lacks though. Redmond- 6 for his actual performance so far. Got some skills, but needs to keep up his effort and keep calm over 90 minutes. Learning a new position doesn't help. I think he'll come around and be alright for Saints, but I don't see a future superstar. Just a pretty solid player. Boufal-?? Still reserving judgment. He has that elusive touch of class, and generally pulls off at least one "Wow!" moment a game but ultimately he hasn't done much. He dribbles into trouble too often, and I think sometimes he doesn't work hard enough off the ball to get in good areas and get the ball so he can put his. More like the occasional bright moment when the ball finds its way to him. But he's coming off an injury and adjusting to a new league and new teammates so I'd expect stuff like that.
Redmond- Justin bieber/10. Young, has potential, moments of genius, moments of immaturity. Hojbjerg - coldplay/10. Reliable, can play on the big stage, nothing flashy, solid performances. Boufal - Madness/10. Fun, great to watch, lacks a bit of depth but entertaining. A couple of great hits. The others - Matt Terry/10. Too soon, not seen enough. Would welcome in January Morgan - Adele/10. Powerful, classy, popular and strong at comebacks
Sims - Fable/10 - massive potential but not being given enough opportunities currently by the powers that be.
Redmond 6/10 - He is a winger and quite a good winger but needs to play for the team and not think he is the man. Hojbjerg 4/10 I really don't get the love on here. This guy is out of his depth and way behind many others in this team for his position. Boufal 7/10 Reminds me of Mane when Who? The other 2 have they played?
Pierre in my opinion is quality. Hasn't had the best of times of late and looks low on confidence. Against Inter for example where he had a bloody good game. The fans were getting on his back. He retains possession well, passes well, presses well, can dribble. Lacks a pair of shooting boots but that may come. At 21 he has the potential to be incredible.
In keeping with RAWMOK's brilliant theme: All of them: Kylie/10 - I don't care what the media or other people say. Still do it for me.
Very true FLT, we want the players to be good, they play for Southampton. We will sing their names and hope they do well. Sometimes we will show bias, sometimes too much optimism about how good they will be. Just like our favourite artist releasing their new single. You want to like it before you have heard it, some of us will get excited at the prospect of a new song. There will be times its an instant hit with us. Other times the song takes time to grow on you. The more you listen the more you like it. Just like watching players. New players come through, like New bands, some will be one hit wonders like whigfield, others will continue to go from strength to strength, little mix. You don't have to like everything about them but at the end of the day we show support, downloading tracks or standing on the terraces to show support and in return they will entertain us. We all long for a George Michael (R.I.P) rather than a Jedwood (W.T.F)
Redmond : 3/10 - Simply not good enough Højbjerg : 6/10 - Been frustrating lately, but not helped by the rotation policy, so he needs time to settle. Potential for sure, but has to be better in possession. Boufel : 6/10 - He'll probably need a team built around him to excel, he won't get that here, so I can see a parting of the waves in the summer
Hojbjerg 5.5/10 - Has moments of class but also gives the ball away with far too much regularity. Once on it and settled he looks composed and tries to push forwards. Redmond 5/10 - Painfully one dimensional when playing on the left. Either should play as a winger or not at all as doesn't have the skill or close control to cut in with any real menace. Boufal 7/10 - As above really. looks a cut above in terms of poise on the ball. Needs to be more disciplined against the better sides (went missing against Walker this week) but should be a great asset.
