We were poor last night, didn't deserve to win. The only chance we created went in. No excuses for for the goal, poor goalkeeping from Weale. Get Ricardo back in Seriously though we definitely need a keeper in the summer. I thought we missed Naughton, Vitor is a good player but not a right back. PVA - well he might have had 1 good game against Burnley but as I expected I just saw the same old **** PVA who couldn't string a pass together or defend properly. Put Mee at left back, he's a far better defender as we saw again last night, and he can get forward better than PVA, despite having less pace. This would allow us to use Vitor as a centre back. The midfield was non-existant apart from Oakley, who was MOTM, and took his goal very well. Wellens had a poor game and I'm really beginning to wonder if we've all overrated King, most of the time he does nothing but score, and his goals have dried up. He's definitely not worth his place at the moment, and maybe we should cash in in the summer because he's becoming increasingly inneffective against teams that don't allow him space. We need a real driving attacking midfielder like Mark Davies or Muzzy. I'd also like to see Wellens play further forward for this reason - he is not a holding midfielder and is more effective when he's driving at the defence with options ahead of him. If we get a real holding midfielder, it will allow the other 2 to play further forward where they are needed. The only time in the first half we ever looked like making a chance was the 3 or 4 decent crosses, but tbf even then, nobody in the box looked capable of winning a header. Kamara was easily our best forward on the night, I've heard bad things about his attitude but he hasn't lacked effort so far, he was all over the place (in a good way). Then again, I did say that about Yakubu at first, but he was once again invisible last night. Kamara should be our central striker next season, Yakubu can go back, and then we should invest in a real winger. Gallagher was poor and Vassell not much better, he did have his usual solitary mazy run through the middle (note: it's always through the middle, he's not a winger) but again, with no end product. Palace were surprisingly good defensively, but the fact that we couldn't beat a side 4th from bottom is pathetic and tells it's own story. We are nowhere near consistent enough and have no plan B, team spirit, or ideas when we come up against a decent outfit. On the bright side, if Sven can sort this all out I might be able to enjoy next season, instead of spending it being constantly frustrated at the many false dawns. I just hope it goes to plan.
I do hope this forum wakes up come the close of bbc606. Last night just tells the story of our very mixed season. I canôt wait til itôs over. LCFCôs up & down form, Dortmund giving away a 12 point lead week by week, Manc Poo on for the treble, Manc Poo about to pass Liverpools 18 titles, Celtic odds on to win the SPL, Barca odds on to win the Spanish lge, Derby doing enough to stay in the npower... ...itôs been a **** season. Still nice to see someone sorted our home page out, nice collection of images even if Sir Garry Lineker (big cheesey grin) & Sir stevie Walsh (goal celebration v Sheep in the play offs) arnôt on it.
Hopefully Sven reignites the link with Didi Zakora! He'd be quality. Also, what happened with Michael Rensing? He'd be a quality keeper in this league?
Everyone needs a to calm down a little. I dont think we will make play offs but lets wait until that is mathematically impossible before we write the players off. We have done well to get where we have but have stuttered recently. Weale is good enough for now so get off his back. Ricardo is crap. They both have faults and more then wont play much next season/ leave Team for saturday Weale Naughton Bamba Mee Van Aanholt Gallagher Oakley Wellens Abe Kamara Vassell Subs Ricardo, Vitor, Berner, King, Dyer, Howard, Yakubu Saturday is MUST WIN. No other words for it So till then get behind the players.
I dont think anyones writing the players off, most of the recent comments are about how good the season has been and the exciting prospect of next season, whether it be in the Championship or Premeirship
