23 August 2011 - Rovers 1-1 Watford. (Rovers win 4-2 on pens) AET

Watford will arrive tonight with a completely different squad to the one that came to the Mem just two years ago. Sean Dyche was in charge of his first Cup game, a match that was delayed by two weeks due to the riots that took place across the country. Lloyd Doyley and Troy Deeney are the only survivors from the night where Paul Buckle's side matched the Hornets throughout, and then defeated them on penalties.

Both of the goals were in the in the first five minutes of normal time. Watford took the lead when Marvin Sordell converted Craig Forsyth's low cross, before Matt Harrold scored a fine equaliser, taking the ball down before hitting a 25-yard shot into the far corner of the net. From then on and through extra time, there was little to choose between the sides, with chances at a premium, although Watford perhaps shaded it.

In the shoot-out, Scott Bevan made two crucial saves, from John Eustace and Carl Dickinson, while Rovers were more accurate, with only Scott McGleish failing to score, hitting his penalty wide. His miss wasn't to matter, as Jo Kuffour, Adam Virgo, Wayne Brown and Mustapha Carayol, with the calmest of penalties, all scored to give us the win.

One of the few highlights under Buckle, but it will be much tougher tonight for several reasons.
