Here is a table of the last 8 years for every club in England regardless of the divison. Most of the years was spent under Nigel Pearson and it shows how well of a job he did turning our club around as setting us up for Ranieri to do what he has done I would imagine the table for the previous 8 years wouldnt look nowhere near as kind
I'm actually starting to feel a bit sorry for those young Leicester fans who have only known the team for the last 3 years. In that time the team has stormed the Championship with a tally of over 100 points, avoided relegation with the greatest escape of all time, and are now on the verge of winning the toughest league in Europe. They'll start to think it will always be like this. My first match on the terraces was 9th September 1961, and since that time I've watched my fair share of average and downright dross. But also I've seen some massively entertaining teams - the 1963 side, the Bloomfield era, the MON era with a couple of League Cup wins and a foray into Europe (although it didn't last very long) and I thought that was going to be the pinnacle of our achievements. But where we are now is just unbelievable and it's all the sweeter for having been made to wait. The game has changed a lot since 1961, but it's great to see that some things still hold true. Despite the advantage that the loaded clubs have had recently with their expensive signings and strutting primadonas, eleven men playing for each other as a team with determination, courage, sheer hard work, never say die attitude and no little skill, led by an inspirational manager can still prevail. Great team, great manager and the greatest time to be a Leicester fan.
... have to agree Bucks ... used to look forward to the FA Cup each year as both a highlight and escapism (from the stress of a relegation from the top flight or the attempt to get back into it!) ... even then the fookers could let you down ... saw two semi final defeats at Villa Park (Liverpool and Spurs) ... and getting knocked out at places like Exeter, Walsall, Oldham and Millwall (twice) ... I missed the most ignominious defeat, away to non-league Harlow Town because I was in hospital recovering from a major (football induced) knee operation ... not sure whether that was a blessing or not! ... .... this is dreamland ... pure and simple ... if we win the title might just have to get the missus to allow me to hang a picture of Claudio and a team photo on the wall for the next few years ...
My first game was age 8 in 2001, my first memories are relegation, administration and completely missed the MON days and the cup wins. The last few years have been unbelievable
If it happens tonight, your team will have deserved it. Enjoy the title, you've earned it. Only +- 12 hours left to go now... the wait is nearly over.
My first game was the Wembley play off win against Derby in 1994 - I then witnessed relegation then one of the stupidest decisions ever as Mark McGee left us for Wolves when we were top of the 2nd division only to be replaced by the (then) greatest Leicester manager I've ever seen in MON and had another trip to Wembley to watch us win the play offs again vs Palace. Afterwards it was League Cups, a couple of very brief European tours, relegation, administration, incompetent managers, incompetent players and finally [promotion and now this. I am blessed to be a Leicester fan.
