    Ed seems to think so...

There is news in German publication Kicker today that Newcastle are back in with a new bid for Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, as Hamburg continue to refuse to pay the asking price of €12M (£9.6M) for the player.

Hamburg were offering Per Ciljan Skjelbred plays around £5M for the striker, but that has been rejected by the Berlin club, although there was news in Germany over the weekend that negotiations were still on-going between the two German clubs.

But Kicker is reporting that Newcastle have gone in with an all cash offer of €9M (£7.2M), which seems a similar offer to what Hamburg have bid, but Newcastle pay their transfer fees in full and up front, and that may be a better bid as far as Hertha Berlin are concerned.

That even seems a decent enough offer for the 22 year-old.

The Berlin club don’t want Skjelbred, who played for them on loan last season, so there’s a possibility if Newcastle increase that cash offer, we could even reach agreement with the Berlin club for Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

If that bid is accepted the next problem Newcastle would have is to meet the player’s wage demands of around £50K/week, since Newcastle previously have balked at that figure.

There was also news today that Newcastle have opened negotiations with Lyon for another striker target – Alexandre Lacazette – so maybe the Tyneside club have (finally) decided to get a move on in the transfer market.
