Watched the game on MOTD last night , Pantilimon was brilliant, the lads dug in and we got a point....but there were holes in our defence that on another day we could easily have been 3 down. Saw that there was some mis-communication between JO and Pattilimon where the ball was going out but JO headed the ball, keeping it in play. The cameras then showed the two players trying to explain to each other what they had meant. Pantilimon had been shouting 'out, out' and JO had interrperated it as get it out of the box.....maybe? Is there a language barrier in the team, which would.......possibly......partly explain the poor performances in our 1st 2-games? Straws.....clutching
I'm sure that's an issue with every team in every professional league. I doubt very much that Pant's grasp of English is that bad. He's been over here quite a while now.
There wasn't a communication problem, it's wasn't going out, JoS needed to deal with it. Pants had the best view to see it staying in and replays showed the ball was dropping within the field of play. Shame he couldn't put it out for throw but it was delt with. looked like a conversation where O'Shea was asking why didn't you tell me it was going out and Pants saying because it wasn't
What Funk said plus O'Shea was back peddling with no view of what was behind him so I'm sure instinct kicked in and he went with the defenders code 'if in doubt, put it out'
The ball was spinning, if it was allowed to bounce it could have gone anywhere. Trying to find the gif I saw. Defo was going to bounce in play though.
If I am defending and my keeper shouts "out, out" the I clear it. No communication issue other than the word he used! But like the cricket "go" to run. I never shouted "go" and always shouted "run" as go sounds a lot like no! Coached that into the kids too!. You shout "leave it" or your name! Not "out"!
Not saying he did shout that, but it did look like it. Yes, communication is the key: 'Send reinforcements we're going to advance' He said 'Send three & fourpence, we're going to a dance' Oh, and if you are a defender try to be spatially aware of who is around you.....but, fair do's, if uncertain then try to put it into row 9!
