I got a cheque through last week from the letting company for my deposit. I paid £450 and expected at least £400 back, but he sent only £230. The flat was left in better condition we got it in. So I phoned him up and asked for the invoices and he went on the defensive and mentioned legal action <laugh> <doh>

He left a message a minute ago saying someone witnessed a couch being taken from the flat and left outside. He's saying it was me, even though I handed the keys back 2 weeks ago <doh>

He also said I should have paid for his time to open the door for cleaners and even the time he took meeting the homeowner <doh>

Bloody hell, letting agents are bastards. If our ones try doing this to me it'll be one of the last things they do. Shiny arsed bastards deserve a kicking for being severe ****s.

He's threatening legal proceedings? For what? He's already taken your money!!!

He's trying to throw you off the scent. Write to him saying you want written details of exactly why he has made deductions or pay the balance within 7 days or you'll start legal proceedings of your own, make sure you mention he'll be liabile for the costs of doing so if youhave to commence proceedings If he doesnt pay you i'll tell you what to do step by step to do it yourself!

This happened a mate of mine and i did it (albeit in England) and he asked for his depoist and more (saying failure to pay it cost him another home etc) he got 3 x his deposit and asked for costs of the proceedings and got another £200 on top!!!!
