I think next season will be Lambert's biggest challenge to date on a personal level for him as a manager. He's quietly built a strong reputation but he (like us) now needs to go on to the next level. He'll have a bit more money available, and players will be more willing to come to us, so he'll have to make some big choices. If he gets them right, he might even break through the glass ceiling that seems to stop young British managers at the moment. If he gets them wrong, he'll join that list of managers who fade after a good start (Coyle?) and form a little group who will get employed by struggling Premiership teams but will never be considered by the big boys. Since I suspect he really is something special, and he is also very ambitious, and since at the moment I think he can add to his reputation by staying with us and taking us further, I'm optimistic. Not one of his signings has disappointed, and if he can pick them as wisely at a slightly higher level, we really are a club which is going places.
I fully agree next year will really show how good he is as a manager! I have a feeling he is gonna do better than we could possibly dream and will finish in a europa league place!!
It certainly will be his biggest test! I have no doubt he will prepare wisely for it and make the right choices for next season. I noticed that Jay Rodriguez got named in the Championship team of the year so that may add a little more value to him.
good post, and simply highlights yet again that he won't be running off anywhere anytime soon. he's still building his reputation and there's a lot left to build
As posted elsewhere, 'Arry gets the England job, Moyes moves to Spurs, and Lambert is off to Everton, loyalty is a bigger pay check (and only a 4 hour drive to Glasgow), Culverhouse takes over as number one at Norwich, and everyone is happy.
I seem to remember a certain Marc Tierney saying he would never play for Norwich, sorry Dave but Lambert is destined for bigger things.
monarch, just cos lambert jumped from colchester doesn't mean he will jump at the first job that crops up! its got to be the right time and the right job for lambert - do you honestly believe its the right time for him to leave norwich?
Monarch - that is something that every single Norwich fan knows and agrees with, but it won't be for at least a couple of years, he is still working hard here and improving Norwich City, which all adds to his CV, he has the support of the whole club here, which he can't guarantee if he moves on! We are under no illusion that he will move on to a bigger project, and when he does, he will go with our love and our blessing!
Good points Dave, but if Moyes leaves Everton, who else would they turn to, Lambert must be the most sought after manager going, think Spurs might be one step to many, but Everton is made for him. I also belive that Culverhouse could make the step up, unless of course Lambert takes his backroom staff with him should he move on.
When Lambert leaves he will take Culverhouse with him, I have absolutely no doubt about that. I say that because he will leave for a big club, not Everton.
Monarch is just doing his usual stirring. As Supers said, he believes just because Lambert left Colchester so sharply, he will do the same to us. We all know about the Burnley link, but I'm pretty sure he's been tapped up by other clubs too, but he's still here and shows no sign of going anywhere. Unless of course the booing and critisism continues, then he might get de-motivated and think what's the point.
culverhouse would definitely go with lambert in my opinion, just as bowen goes everywhere with hughes
Carra, why do you assume that because I don't bleed yellow and green, I'm stirring. I don't give a toss if Lambert moves on or not, I also did'nt feel the need to mention the Colchester connection, you obviously did, get over it. I thought this was a football forum, where someone posted a comment and it was open for debate, but then this is the Norwich board and one is not allowed to say anything that may be offensive to City fans.
You say you don't give a toss about Lambert - so why is it that the majority of your posts are about Lambert? I couldn't give a flying fudge about Colchester, trust me on that.
monarch, you can't deny you do bang on about lambert a lot! you are clearly desperate for him to move on so you can tell us all that you knew all along that he'd dump us. thing is, we all know he'll leave us for better things but he won't be 'dumping us' because he will have earned the right to manage a bigger club one day, its just highly unlikely to be any time soon, so you best be patient
If Everton came in for Lambert he'd be gone in a flash. He'd love that job. Lambert is ambitious and he has a thing for attendance figures and stature. I don't think financial figures bother him in the slightest, its the crowds and the challenge which turns him on.
