Who feels sorry for him over his time with Villa? I've commented on this regarding "Be careful what you wish for!" http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...veals_torment_over_aston_villa_hell_1_4424982
Nope. I loved it. As I often said, I'll always remember last game of the season when he was our manager, and Villa fans kept singing his name. Wound me right up coz the rumors were that Villa wanted him. Then a few months later, they got their way, and he went to them. The only bad thing is that he didn't get relegated with them. Would have been the icing on the cake if Lambet went down with Villa and we stayed in the Prem.
Really thought he'd arrived didn't he? Remember the press conference? "Get me Messi and Ronaldo" Arrogant twat!
Yes, the grass isn't always greener!!! I know I speak for the majority of fans who will always be grateful for that fantastic 'ride'. He was the right manager at the right time and I remember having a discussion with another fan after one game and we were wondering how he would get on dealing with players with egos ............... I think he left at the right time, but it could have been handled better on both sides!!
I also remember the testimonial against Celtic when he came on the pitch and fawned at the Celtic fans and completely ignored the Norwich faithful.
He took over when the club was in the darkest place it had been for decades and left after finishing 12th in the Premier League in his (and our) first season back there. What caused the split has, to my knowledge, never been made public, but for performing such a Herculean task in so short a timescale, he has my eternal thanks. Plus he got us playing the exciting brand of football that the fans all loved and that we'd all love to see the club play again now, that Alex Neil aspires to and will doubtless achieve eventually Edit: I'm looking forward to seeing the NCFC old boys club reunited in the cup vs Wet Sham at 14.00 tomorrow. Whereas Chelsea v Man Citeh "cherry-picked" presumably for live coverage by our revered national broadcaster can do one!
Hi bors, when he asked Villa to resigned he should have cited constructive dismissal !!! He was wanted by our board to continue in office, he must be rueing his decision to jump our ship.
The facts are that he left in the same manner as we acquired him, so we can have no complaints on that front. And he left us in a much better position than we were when he started, so he will have my eternal gratitude for that. However - I tend to think along the lines of what goes up slowly, comes down slowly. He moved on a season or 2 too soon. Had he stayed, he would have made the jump upto the next level with ease. Unfortunately, arrogance got in the way of that.
.... and don't forget when he left "there were things that the fans don't know" and we still don't and we never will of course. What a tosser, just a shame he never got relegated with Villa. At least Villa will be relegated this season which is no more than their fans deserve
I'm sorry, but I don't agree with your 2nd paragraph. If you look at the results towards the end of that first season in the PL, we won very few games and I think other managers had worked out to how to beat us and I'm not convinced that he would have kept us up for a second season.
Well you're privy to more information than the rest of us then Dave because I've never seen that mentioned anywhere else mate. Any chance you could post a link to a factual statement here mate?
If there was a public factual statement then everyone would know about it!! It was something I heard while at a private function at the club, and I believe that Lambert himself mentioned it on one of the social media sites but it was deleted as it went to court.
Who knows? You could well be right. My comment was intended to illustrate how rapid his rise and subsequent decline was. I suspect his feet are more on the ground these days as a result.
