No AN isn't being replaced by that traitor who walked out on us to join Villa but apparently we've been linked with a move for Liverpool's former Southampton & England striker Rickie Lambert, thoughts?
I've just posted on the transfer thread, wouldn't mind him but not at their asking price! http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/07/2...-45-million-asking-price-for-rickie-lambert/?
Surprised none of us have replied to this link . Rickie is a top top player & totally humble and decent person . He has had the chance at his home club ( No not us ;-) ) They seem to regard him as surplus to requirements . The one big stopper from his point of view ( never southamptonpools asking price ) going to you is IMHO the distance between Liverpool & Norwich . Either way I honestly hope you ( and Sir Richard of Lambert ) all the best for next season . Except for 4 games of course ;-)
A class player, with the hard working attitude and team ethos which would fit well in AN's system. Only scored 2 goals last season and at 33 is getting on, but could be a useful addition.
You mean the one who left because of McNallys transfer policy? Do you not sense a little deja vu in the frustrated manager dept?
My concern wouldn't necessarily be the wages or fee, I don't imagine he needed a big wage increase to go to Liverpool, but I'd be worried by the length of contract. He's nearly 34, so this will probably be his last chance at Premier League wages. Much as Holt wanted a longer contract than we were prepared to offer before. For one season I'd take him, perhaps with an option for a second, but any longer would be a serious risk.
If he is going to WBA I cannot see wages being a problem as they couldn't agree personal terms with Olssen and we were in the Championship then so they are obviously not big wage payers. If, as seems certain, we will only play one up top we need cover for Jerome unless AN thinks Lafferty can do the job. There will be a fine dividing line between staying up and coming down and if a short term fee of £3m for an experienced player helps keep us up that it would be money well spent.
I agree the asking price is a bit high however, if it was to secure a place in the PL for one more season, it is worth it.
I have no idea if his quality has diminished as his age has increased, but from the Lambert of his Saints days, yes please.
I can't help thinking this might be another aging striker situation similar to that of Grant Holt. Lambert's 2 goals in 25 appearances (admittedly 18 as sub) doesn't enthuse me, really. Would that really help our chances?
Not sure about this one. I see him as a replacement for Jerome maybe if he is injured but wonder what enthusiasm we will get. He is another example of being used and wasted by a major club (well Liverpool anyway!)
A 34 is far to old to be signing. You would perhaps consider if he was free but if we are arguing over an extra million quid for Brady I'd certainly rather go without Lambert and get him.
I'm getting worried carrabuh - I'm beginning to agree with a lot of what you say. Yes Lambert HAS scored goals in the PL, but he'd really only be coming here to take up a valuable place in the squad and perhaps play as an 'impact sub'.
