lamberts a fantastic manager but there always seems to want to better himself. he also seems to fall out with boards as well in this case though, im not sure he has made the right move. some people say villa are a "sleeping giant", but other so-called sleeping giants such as leeds and the sheffield clubs have fallen down the leagues and i suspect villa will do the same. norwich however are on the rise with a big fan base and hard-working players who seem to want to be there. i do think they will slip back into the championship if lambert leaves and no quality comes in
That will make Lambert the 3rd ex Wycombe manager to go on to manage Villa. Must be rare for 2 clubs to have shared that many managers.
If he is not careful he is going to build a negative reputation for himself. An earlier comment about falling out with various clubs board looks to be spot on, as he appears outwardly content with his lot but as soon as there is a whiff of something bigger and better his mind set changes just a bit too quickly for my liking. Once he has gone we can start again, hopefully with someone that can keep in the top division a while longer and on a personal note, whoever the new manger is, I hope his plays a more consistent formation and starting XI (my biggest gripe about PL)
he is a talented manager its just a shame he leaves every time there is an offer from a bigger club.thai, good luck to norwich in finding a replacement,i personally think he is taking a step backwards villa were very poor last season, even the great martin oneill didn't stay long at villa so i guess its watch this space to see how long lambert will last.
He didn't stay with us for long either - just 6 months He was effectively pushed out by the terrible chairman we had at the time (Robert Chase) who would not give him the money he wanted to strengthen the team, after he was promised it. That was an appalling decision by the Chairman and very few fans have forgiven him (myself included) and it all happened 18 years ago! The concern some of us will now have, given our current finances (which will be sorted out by the end of the coming season btw) we might not be able to attract a manager or players will sufficient ability to even keep us in the PL, let alone making any kind of progress on last season. Torrid times ahead are quite likely but hopefully not.
I know some say it's exciting watching the managerial merry go round, but personally I feel for the clubs like Swansea and Norwich. They find a suitable manager, gain a foothold in the premier league and then are left in turmoil as the so called bigger clubs pick and choose anyone that has been deemed successful. The thirst for champions league football and the finances involved has meant a managers lifespan has become shorter and shorter in any team that is deemed a "big club". Same can e said for those teetering on the brink of the relegation zones as the financial penalties for going down can often be crippling to those that have over stretched or have huge wage budgets. Good luck to Norwich in finding a good replacement and hope to see you guys staying in the Prem. By the way, Thai. Why is Holt saying he wants to go?
Don't get me started on the Champions League and how it affecting the PL By all accounts, Grant wants a 1 year extension to his contract and more money. He has 2 years on his existing contract, is our highest earner and played only 60% of the games last season. The chances are that next season and beyond he is likely to play the same amount or perhaps fewer games, so the CEO David McNally has refused to meet those demands by Holt and his agent.
it annoys me when players sign contracts and then half way through decide they either want more money or a move to another club......greedy b**tards, you can see why some managers let these players rot in the reserves.
I have to agree with JS in terms of it being (what should be on paper) a good move for Lambert. Villa have been suffering from the post-Martin O'Neill syndrome. Managers following O'Neill inherit players who have been playing above themselves for O'Neill and generally seem to struggle to get the same out of them. Lambert seems to be a good motivator, judging by his success at Norwich and getting us to a League Cup Semi-Final. I cannot see Villa going the same way as Leeds as they are financially sound. He was on a rolling contract with Norwich, so they unfortunately have to accept it is far easier for him to walk away. Clubs enjoy the benefit of such contracts, when they struggle and want to get rid of the manager so have to take the rough with the smooth when the opposite happens. A lot of us would move job if someone offered us a job with a lot more potential but a lot of people seem to think that football is different in that respect. Lambert doesn't owe Norwich anything, he took them from a team that was struggling in league one and got back to back promotions. He has more than earnt his move. There is nothing wrong with ambition.
