Lakshmi Mittal, according to wiki the richest man in Europe, fifth richest in the world as at July 2010. Said to be worth around £19.3 billion. Mittalâs become increasingly interested in buying our deeply insolvent, unfashionable, little football club from his old mate Bernie - but apparently not at Ecclestone's grossly inflated asking price of £100m. Aston Villa cost half that amount not that long ago. Most of us on here regard the Goonâs as cynical opportunists prepared to risk the clubâs chances of continued success. To them, as some wit on here once suggested, QPR represents nothing more than a âquick profit and runâ scenario. That would be an amusing observation if it wasnât so sickly appropriate right about now. For many of us almost anyone barring Romanov and the like would be better than the Goons - and so we support Lakshmi and the lads to take over. We do so primarily because of: - Bhatia and Saksenaâs sterling efforts in stabilising and bringing success to the club; - Mittalâs wealth and increasing interest in the club; and - Mittalâs promise of significant investment in the team; However, we have our detractors, people like our Eamon who are not so sure about Mittals; and only yesterday, QPR4Me who replied to a comment with, 'I take it that you will include Mittal in your list of reprehensible characters? Do a little research before chucking names around, "Saviours" soon turn out to be "sinners". It wasn't QPR4Me's opinion that grabbed my attention but rather the unexplained inferences made: - that those who regard Mittal as a likely saviour of QPR have failed to check the man out; - that Mittal is reprehensible and more sinner than saviour; and - that Mittal is therefore potentially at least as big a threat to our club as the Goons, if not more so. The purpose of this thread is NOT to divide us into pro and anti Mittal camps but rather to inform ourselves as Rs fans. Perhaps the best way of doing this is to address the following questions: - what do we know about the Mittals? - is Mittal reprehensible (more sinner than saviour)? - in what ways would you say that Mittal as owner represents a threat to our club? Before I get out there waving my Indian flag around in protest, will someone educate me... please.
very intresting. i for one have no idea what this man is really like and to become the 5th richest man in the world he most of step on a few toes to get there. i think though most people would be looking at the track recourd of how the club was run by Bhatia and Saksena last season. and the noises that came out of their camp at the end of the season, to see that they seem only to want run the club as a good bussiness. which means looking after their customers. which we all know are us lot. i am sure they are no saints and there might be problems with them along the road. you only have to look at united and see that they have every thing you could want from a football team but they still have problems with their owners. but it all mst be better than what we have now
All we seem to get about the Mittals here are mumbled mutterings such as - if you only knew what I know about their dealings; or - they're not as white as some here think. Despite being asked on several occasions for chapter and verse no specific instances have been put forward. Yet the list of transgressions and shady dealings of the other side are as long as your arm. Isn't it time they put up or shut up?
to be quite honest i dont care who owns the club i had 300 shares once..didnt do very well with me as part owner all i want is for QPR to succeed in the prem i want owners who are in for the longhaul and not just a quick profit buy some players.make next season enjoyable and dont allow to many chelseahehe or manc fans to make my life unbearable i dont ask for too much 17th would do me next season beating stoke would be a bonus (sorry clive)
I could add to my contribution, but I suggest you have a look for yourself. I've got work to do this morning.
I think we all want that Kiwi but the point I'm trying to make is that Mittal appears to be no 'better / cleaner' than Bern or the Flavinator hence my reluctance to hail them as saviours and wave an Indian flag. They are money men too. If they weren't they would have bought us outright ages ago. Just be careful what you wish for.
Crap. I'll take Bhatia and Saksena who actually appear to be Qpr supporters based on their appearances at LR last season over a Chelsea fan and crook thank you very much. You dont get to be loaded being a nice guy, they've all stepped on peoples toes to get where they are. I want the best for Qpr and I dont see that with the current regime.
As mentioned by a previous poster, of course no one gets that rich without stepping on some toes. All we can really do is to judge both sides on their track record in their dealings with QPR. On that basis alone it's quite clear which side has shown the club, the manager, the fans and the wider community the most respect, and has acted most responsibly. Big clue here - it's not the Goons.
I am utterly gobsmacked by that stuff! Sorry if the request was a little rude but at least we can all read it and make our own judgement.
I don't think anyone of us imagined that Mittal was some holier than thou knight in shining armour. Let's face it, you don't amass that sort of fortune without being "creative" I also believe that the vast majority of R's fans really are not fussed who owns the club as long as they do the right thing by it. If the goons had supported Sir Neil with funds for players to enable him to assemble a competitive squad for the coming season, then I'm sure there wouldn't be too many dissenters. But they are not! Also, I totally agree with your sentiment regarding being careful what you wish for. But I do believe that Mittal at this stage is the better option.
Look behind any self-made billionaire and you will NOT find Mother Theresa. Bribes in much of the third world, and certainly West Africa, are commonplace. You can barely hire a taxi in Lagos without a bribe. I agree with Bakes and Kaspers. The Mittals are genuine QPR fans, the whole family judging by the large numbers they bring to some of the games. At the mid stage of the 2009/10 season, we were a laughing stock with Emperor Flavio giving the thumbs down to each new manager that took over. Briatore went into self-imposed exile, the Mittals took over the executive functions - their first act to hire NW. Bhatia worked closely with NW and backed him all the way. We get into the Prem and now the Goons call the shots again. Are we happy with what we are seeing at the moment...? Are we f*ck...nuff said.
You cant please everyone, you take your pick you makes your choice i dont care how they made there money, thats done and dusted and no ammount of gnashing of teeth will change that,if they want to take us forward then i know who i would prefer to be in charge and its not Tango & Cash
I believe the Mittals are genuine fans, I've seen it with my own eyes. There's been actions that support that view. Bhatia and Saksena ran the club last season in a very sensible manner, in stark contrast to what Flabio was doing earlier. I'm sure Lakshmi is no angel but I'd choose him every time over Flabio and the midget. The current complete lack of transfer activity clearly shows Flabio's first loyalty is to his wallet, whereas last season, with Bhatia in charge, we made some sensible, timely and affordable acquisitions. I think we'd have done that again this pre-season if Bhatia was still in charge, plus I wouldn't have had to pay 50% more for my season ticket, although, of course, there would have been a significant increase.
I can't really disagree with the 4 posters above me, spot on. Personally I can't forget The Mittals faces after the Leeds game, as they paraded around LR with the Trophy. They loved it. Tango & Cash, What a great handle.
