I'm fairly sure that every football fan regardless of what team they support and where they are in their respective leagues will tell you that they never get any luck. However we really have been at the bottom of Lady Luck's gift list this season.

Lets start with the refereeing howlers, the obvious two being SWP's disallowed goal against WBA and this Saturdays failure to let play continue after SWP was fouled, both unforgiveable and costing us at least 4 points in the process. Some may also call Joey B's sending off against Norwich another mistake but that was debated at great length so no need to reopen it here.

Personally I think we just need to find out how to get on the list of teams whose players are allowed raise their hands in an opponents face, grab them by the neck or just flat out tw*t them without getting sent off or in some cases even booked. We've had so many Red cards this season I lose track of them all but Barton's and Cisse's were soft to say the least. So what do we reckon? 6 or 7 points lost to Red cards?

Watching the Liverpool Arsenal game on Saturday they mentioned how Liverpool had hit the post more times that any other team, what surprised me was that we were 5th on the list having hit the wood work 11 times. Well seeing as Adel and Buz gave us our 12th and 13th I guess we've moved up that particular table. Imagine where we could be if say 3, 4 or 5 of these had gone in. Seeing as we dont tend to lose by more than the odd goal we could have a further 3-5 points on the board had we had a smidgen more good fortune.

So what can draw from this aside from the fact that if it wasn't for an oscene amount of bad luck we could be 14-16 points better off and sitting pretty. The main thing I draw from it however is that we are far, far better than our league position would suggest and maybe (just maybe) we haven't played quite as bad as some would have you believe.

So, going down? Not an effing chance.

    Cheers.

We can't look back, that's done and we just have to take it. It's what we do from here on in that counts, let's hope the worm has turned...

    If only...

But I see your point that we might be a tad bit better than the table says. Then again the table never lies...

Hmm don't disagree but if we were to remove luck and woodwork we would have to assess our good luck and wood work against eg Everton in both games hitting the bar. A lot would probably even out but still feel we would be about 6 points up which makes a significant difference!!

i feel you really do make your own luck in life. sadly bernie took away alot of our luck by not selling the club until ten days before the end of the first transfer window. that then has left always playing catch up. yes we could have won more games but i think if we set are team up properly before the season started we would not be talking about missed goals and bad sending offs

i see your point, and it is a bad one. but we have also been guilty of throwing points away - villa away, wba home, newcastle home and many more with poor defending and not taking chances.

i also think the red card point could also be looked at the other way - if our players were more disciplined and not give the ref a chance to send them off then we would have won more games recently.

we make our own luck, but then also havent had the rub of the green at times. the ball yesterday never fell in the right place at the right time really.
