Lack of anything to discuss?????????? Well this is what's on my mind.

The hardest thing I'm finding with the close season at the moment is the lack of anything to really discuss. Nothing really coming out of the club, just the very familiar "DON'T PANIC" lines. No one with any real ideas of possible transfer targets, and even the talk of potential signings is tinged with a feeling of "if the player is any good why would he come to us"?

I try to remain positive but I have a few recurring questions going round my mind like:

    Q. are we not signing anyone because with reduced revenue streams in the close season it's a good way of saving money?

    Q. if the above is the case are we going to miss the boat on many of our "top" targets?

I also find the situation with the players that have been offered contracts and are still "keeping their options open" frustrating (messers Palmer & Maher). I have read many opinions but find myself now thinking if you WANT to play for the GILLS sign and if you only want to play for the GILLS because no one else wants you then thank you but NO THANK YOU. Time has come to remove the offers neither are irreplacable, although this adds to my previous issues. Because even on reduced terms they will still be earning well above the National Average wage and should be grateful that they are in the fortunate position that they have an offer on the table unlike the many players (not just at our club) who were just released.

Think what is just something to make me smile in terms of what we can look forward to next season. Something official from the club, even if it's just "we are actually in talks with x amount of players.

So for now I will just keep telling myself that the club are working hard behind the scenes to bring in the right players who have quality, hunger, desire and the right work ethic to take us onwards and upwards.

Like Gemini, I too find the deathly silence from Priestfield, rather strange, if not somewhat disrespectful to the fans who, buy their season tickets and buy their tickets each week “through the turnstiles” First, of all, Gills Fc is a business and that business is football. In any other industry, there would be dialogue, press releases and reassurances from “the business” via the press. Where is the Chairman? In his office? Dubai? Home in Tonbridge? And the same goes for Hessy. However, I believe that sometime during last season he only promised one press release a week. It would appear that we do not even get that now!
The fans are the “shareholders” of the business and unless something positive is done shortly, then I am afraid that some will just “sell up” and “invest” in another club. Come on Hessy and Scally, let the fans know what is going on.

    Interesting analogy.

The fans aren't quite the shareholders... in fact these days you can just say that the shareholders are the shareholders! Either way you are right - the shareholders should be given reassurances from the chairman and manager. The silence is alarming.
