I found this an interesting read, and probably sheds light on why Hughton is such a popular manager. I think this confirms that Hughton had a part to play as well in the Youth cup success and also that he is looking at these youngsters to hopefully get into the first team at some point and how they could fit into it. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/..._doing_it_for_the_norwich_city_kids_1_2244275
Yes, I was impressed with that as well, especially the comment that CH is much more involved with the Youth team than PL ever was. I hope this indicates that CH is here for the long haul with his 'evolution rather than revolution' as he builds a full PL squad. The Board deserves credit as well for gaining academy status for the youth team and hopefully this will have an impact for the club as well as the national set-up over time. Very good article.
I remember noticing Hughton's popularity with the Academy and Youth players some time ago, (and mentioned it in defence of him when we were going through our lean patch in the spring). There were a number of interviews with youth players in the Match day programmes, all of whom mentioned how he regularly came to watch them, and invited them to train with the senior players. And Neil Adams said the same thing in his interviews around the Youth Cup win. I agree with RER that this is confirmation that Hughton is here for the long run; clearly what McNally was looking for when replacing Lambert. It's good that this is getting mentioned in the press too. Great stuff.
Glad to see a manager finally take an interest in the academy, I have a lot of faith in the latest set of players going through the ranks, especially after years of disappointments. Ricky Martin and Neil Adams are worth a mention as they've both done an amazing job, I can imagine it took years of hard work to get it to the standard it is today.
For a club like ours, academy status is an important way forward. With the 25 player limit, it's very useful to have young players who can come in for injured players.
just as long as none of them are pushed into the first team before they are ready. playing in the first team and doing badly could set their development back.
Being pushed too soon doesn't look like being CH's style and surely the development squad is the next step.
Pretty obviously the fact that we stayed up in 11th spot when it wasn't his team. That run of games between Arsenal and Christmas time. I would have preferred a more attacking approach but ultimately the bloke did wonderfully well with potentially one of the weaker squads in the division. When Ruddy got injured I feared the worst.Oh.and he is a nice guy,and not a Tory.
