Premier league point system doesn't neccessarily mean the order they have is the right order. I think he is above Begovic as Krul at no point this season has conceeded 4 goals, also I would put him above De Gea,Krul has looked far more assured than him. De Gea being top of the points system is more down to the excellent form of Jones,Smalling etc etc.

De Gea has saved more shots in the league this season than any other keeper.

 

Leon Best is the 8th best striker in the league and Tiotes the 10th best midfielder.

Both should be higher.

 

Further evidence that stats are for retired footballers and Fat Sam. That list is all over the shop in terms of performances so far. Krul would certainly be right up there despite the odd mistake. Simply because it depends on the nature of the saves you make, Krul has pulled out at least two or three top drawer saves. I'm not saying I'd rate him one the PL's best 6 games into a season, but he'll be better than most eventually.

I fecking hate stats. Imagine if you did all your transfer business based on stats. I prefer Mr Carrs methods!

You could just watch players and judge whther they give the ball away regularly. I'm not saying dismiss them altogether but its laughable in my book to hold up stats as a marker of someones ability, when you can jsut watch them and instantly know more!

 

Very true, you can't take stats over what you can see clear as day. But theyre good to look at when you know how well the player did anyway and are interested in the facts behind it.

 

Cheiks had a stinker until the last two games and is in the top 10 midfielders. Stats without proper analysis are useless.

 

Has Krul made many mistakes so far this season? De Gay may have stopped the most shots but he lacks commandment in the area and he fumbles like a lanky streak of piss when trying to catch crosses. Hart has been safe but I would think Krul and begovic would be up there by judging their overall performance visually and not using stats.

 

If someone we to make 5 passes between the goalkeeper and himself, he would be rated the same as someone who made 5 assists. Doesn't make sense.

 

This is where stats tell lies. It used to happen a lot on the old 606. People would back their argument with a load of stats. Then someone would post a load of stats which showed the opposite. You can make them fit whatever you want. As you say you couldn't rate a full back making successful passes to a keeper the same as David Silva playing cutting through balls left, right and centre. But stats would show the same. There are allsorts of problems with using stats as a method of for judging players. As I say watching them is always the key factor. I think its sometimes forgotten that football is a sport, and in our endless search to get an edge we sometimes forget the actual elements to an individuals game which make a difference need to be seen and cannot be bourne out in stats.
