Boyd has terminated his contract in Turkey and is available for free. He had a retched time at Boro but scored goals when he went to Forest and his record at Rangers was great. He's a proper striker and although I know people will say 'we need better than that' he's better than what we have and would be a decent signing on a free.

Doncaster chairmen has said Sharp is available for £3m. He's on fire at the minute and I think he'd score goals in the Premier League. He's scored a couple recently that reminded of a certain Kevin Phillips. Before the same rhetoric about Championship players comes to mind, remember we got Phillips from Watford for around 350k.

Yes id rather we broke the bank for something out of this world but both these guys would improve us and are the type of strikers we sorely miss at present.

Would prefer to get Frazier back in and at least give Noble a run out against Peterboro.

Sure MON will know before the end of the transfer window whats req'd.

Don't rate Boyd but would have Sharp in a heartbeat, he's the best striker in the championship imo

Don't really care if we get an unknown quantity or a superstar, just want somebody who lives on the last defenders shoulder and breaks his bollocks to get in the box. Any striker capable of doing that would have 5-6 goals for us this season at least and we would have 9-10 more points.

Recon Craig Russell would be better than we have at the moment. he was once top scorer with I believe four goals, but thanks to a person no longer at the club, we have no Gyan or Bent. now how did that come to be?

Free agent now he has terminated his contract at Turkish club Eskişehirspor.

He was a scoring sensation for Kilmarnock and Rangers before an ill fated move to Boro, scoring 164 goals in 296 games. thats bloody impressive imo and to be honest, Robin Van Persie would have struggled in a completely **** Boro side at that time, although he did get 6 goals in 27 games for them and 6 in 10 on loan at Forest. His international record is pretty good with 7 in 18 games.

He would cost **** all and thus with a wages only contract over 2 years, he would be a decent gamble imo. A 2 year contract at £30k per week a total investment of say around £3m, is surely more in tune with the current financial restraints in the UK?

At 6ft 1" and 28 years old he fits the bill for an experienced and physically prepared forward that can score goals. Surely he is no more a risk than the likes of this Jelavic for £10m + wages and Boyd will still be hungry to succeed in English football?

The alternative is that Boyd goes back to Rangers and we get Jelevic for a much reduced price? I dont see how he is worth more than £5m imo.

Cest, ParkerSAFC had the very same idea as yourself, a bit earlier on, might be worth a cross referal on the article, as they say great minds think alike.

He's a bloody bizarre player. You watch him for 30 minutes and think he is absolutely terrible, then he scores a goal... then you watch him for another 30 minutes convinced he is terrible and got lucky the first time, then he scores another goal...

A player who knows how to find the net when given a clear chance, but will contribute absolutely nothing else.

Nowt like shooting a man down after he puts loads of work in. You'll affect cest's mojo! :)

Re the article.. Not a bad idea on a free transfer as it presents low risk investment.. not sure he can cut it at pl level but, as you say, he's going to want to try to prove himself

I couldn't agree more about the SKP likeness. Sharp is a little powerhouse and some of the goals on here are very SKP'ish.

For £3m he would be a real good deal and at 25 is the very same age we got SKP from Watford. How about this lad form Rangers Jelevic AND sharp for a combined £12m?

Add a left back for around £3m and Bobs your mother’s sisters husband as they say. £15m spending isn't exorbitant in today's market but gives us a whole new look for sure.

Heres a look at the lad and look for the SKP type volleys, edge of the box shots, headers and poachers goals.

Think you lot are getting a tad wee desperate as billy sharp is no kevin phillips and lets not forget sharp failed at the only "biggish" club he signed for, sheffield utd and while he is a class striker in the lower leagues, any step up and he would fall flat on his face.

As for Boyd? again he is the SPL's leading all time scorer, ahead of the "great" henrik larrson so by that reckoning he should be pretty handy right? tell that to boro were he looked utter trash and yes he scored a few goals at forest in a short space of time but he gets a move abroad and look what happens.

Some players are made to look outstanding in certain teams and leagues and you would be making a big mistake if you signed either of these two.

I think thats unfair in all honesty as he was only 21 when he resigned for Sheff Utd and the pressure of playing for his boyhood club, in a pretty ****e Sheff Utd team that was galloping towards the 3rd division.

I think he has gone back to working hard and scoring regularly - 53 goals in 143 championship games (average 2.69) as opposed to 25 in 63 games (average 2.52) from Phillips at that level before we bought him. SKP was 24 and Sharp is 25.

I'd give this lad a punt personally for £3m and that "just a fat lad from Sheffield" t-shirt shows he has a good sense of humour about himself as well.

Big stars are not guaranteed to work out here at he SOL - Bent and Gyan for instance but lads like Sharp, Marco and SKP have worked out well form the lower divisions.

I quite like the look of that lad (steady, in a footy sense. I'm not chapped Arse lol) Craig Mackail-Smith at Brighton as well. Hungry players looking to prove themselves not just to use us as a stepping stone or last big pay day.

Actually Cest I will say that `desperation` does not quite sum up our predicament. we need better than Boyd, and we need him yesterday. but Id rather MoN, spent big and bought a provan striker and a left winger. Ellis trusted Brucie with wadges of dosh, and for what? so I recon Short will back MoN even more, just because of his history/track record. thats me with arm legs fingers and wife crossed.

Reports are suggesting that Sunderland and Newcastle could be ready to go to war once again – but this time it’s over the signature of Celtic striker, Gary Hooper.

The 23 year-old is attracting a boatload of European interest following his exploits over the past season after his 2010 move from Scunthorpe
