and has been suspended by Manchester City. He tested positive for a "specified substance", which is odd wording, why not say "banned substance"? You just know The Sun are praying it's Coke that is the "specified substance" in the failed drugs test... EDIT http://twitter.com/#!/skysports_bryan/status/43403491452010496 @skysports_bryan Bryan Swanson Kolo Toure latest - no confirmation from #fa or #mcfc but Sky sources tell us he tested positive for substance in dietary supplement http://twitter.com/#!/skysports_bryan/status/43406857720709121 @skysports_bryan Bryan Swanson Kolo Toure latest - #fa say "a player's been provisionally suspended .. having tested positive for use of a prohibited substance." #mcfc I had never heard of a dietary supplement until the last few minutes, I had to look it up. "A dietary supplement, also known as food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to supplement the diet and provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids, that may be missing or may not be consumed in sufficient quantities in a person's diet. Some countries define dietary supplements as foods, while in others they are defined as drugs or natural health products." Sounds a bit odd to me, why would a dietary supplement be illegal?
Tom. Some of the substances in Vicks Menthol are illegal as are those that are in Beechams Powders. Remember Alain Baxter had his bronze medal in Salt Lake City stripped because he used the wrong inhaler from the pharmacy as the USA substances differ from those in the UK. It could be anything, he may have been on a new weight gainer product and there could be a banned substance he wasn't aware of. It really just depends what it is, I doubt it'd be essential amino acids as they are and can be consumed with just eating food types such as fish, eggs, chicken and other foods with a latrge quantity of proteins within them. Manchester City have probably suspended him due to it being a failed drugs test, they may not know the actual outcome of it and also may not know which dietary supplement he was taking. As I said with weight gainers and products like these you need to be very careful, glutamine is generally used in endurance sports to aid the growth and repair of muscles so i'm guessing that Kolo is on a new product of whey protein and he isn't aware of the substances within the product as some can be hidden.
The most ridiculous failed drugs test to me was when Shane Warne tested positive for a diuretic given to him by his mum before the 2003 World Cup. Diuretic's make you urinate in order to promote fluid loss, apparently, and I still do not understand why he was banned, it's not like he took steroids or some other serious drug is it?
http://twitter.com/#!/danroan/status/43417582484729856 @danroan Dan Roan Reliable source tells me substance Toure tested for is "not performance-enhancing, and was unintentional" - suggests supplement/remedy...
Apparently he asked Gareth Barry how he get's away with playing ****e each week, gareth replied, there just chewing gums, i give some to shaun wright phillips earlier in the season, but i have not seen him since
