Depends if he had an excuse for why it was unavoidable. This is a discipline thing...the prematch meal is part of the build up to the match. Doubt Mane will do it again.

Disappointing from Mane, but I think Koeman certainly did the right thing there.

Ok but Tadic should have been starting over Djuricic.

In such a big game Mane should have been starting anyway.

It doesn't rank alongside nutting Jose Fonte, but it's good to see that discipline prevails in Koemanland.

In 2 minds about this one. He should have started today and it seems silly to drop him for such an important game. But examples must be made.

Discipline is important. If Mane had got away with it, what about the other players....especially those that have come through the Academy and have been taught what is acceptable. No player is bigger than the team.

Mane strikes me as having a bit of a screw loose, but Ron has done the right thing for the sake of team harmony.

You've got to have discipline and we are not a 1 man team so it was the right decision for me. Also can we not have pictures of Henry Winter as I can't stand him?

How's that? He was late for a meal but I don't see he's done much else on the Balotelli scale.

You misunderstand me, i'm not saying he is a disruptive influence, just that he strikes me as being a bit "different" in his behaviour sometimes, like he loses his head on the pitch on occasions and makes silly tackles or doesn't read the situation well. Saying that, i'm delighted he plays for us as he is capable of moments of real quality that is enough to win games.

Right decision. And up front about it too. Players and fans know where they stand. Good one. And I can't fault decisions to back new recruits. On another day it will prove a master stoke.

Koeman should have punished him in a way that affects only him, not his team mates, and definitely not the paying fans. He should have fined him or made him do a couple West Quay 'meet the players' type gigs.

I think there is more than one way to look at this. Mane was late and whatever the reason RK thought it a trivial excuse. Chances are this probably wasn't the first time he has been late either although we do not know if this be true.
Being late for an appointment is a slant on the integrity of the whole group unless of course there was a genuine reason which was beyond the control of the latecomer.
It is true I am an "oldy" and was brought up to have stricter values. My military training too may have a part to play but don't you think it is the height of bad manners to keep people waiting because you cannot be bothered?
Sorry I back RK all the way.....we mostly agree he is a good manager...so let him manage. After all he hasn't done a bad job of it up to now!!
As for the way he punished the player....they play as a squad. He is part of the squad, the team should not be particularly effected by him not starting. No one man is better than the next........

Disagree...Koeman punished him in a way that showed everyone how seriously he views it and how you can't take the piss out of Ronald. It can be easy for players to assume Mr Nice Guy is weak...they now know he isn't.

Koeman has since said something about it being one thing to be late once or twice for training, but not on match day. Sounds like it isn't the first time.

mmm, I have this conversation with my wife about our kids and team sports..... now I know it is kids and not professional, but my view is that rules is rules and if there is not a top/valid reason, then the punishment sticks.

The short term gain from one match does not out way the potential under mining of the manager's rule and likely further breaks of rules. It also sends a strong message to all - no one player is bigger than the team or too important not to be dropped. Give them an inch....

I 100% back Ron on this decision, regardless of any possible detriment to the team selection on Sunday.
