Makes you realise how ****ing unbelievable Gerd Muller was. Wasn't it about 70 goals in 60 appearances for West Germany, and about 430 goals in about 500 games for Bayern?
He's strangely underrated in the UK I feel, very few would put him in their top 5 or even top 10 strikers but records suggest he should be.
Statistically, among those who played a substantial number of times at the highest level, he must surely be Numero Uno?
Official stats: For Bayern Munich: 365 goals in 472 Bundesliga games. 66 goals in 74 European games. For West Germany: 68 in 62. Staggering figures!
Puskas 521 goals in 508 games domestically, and 84 goals in 89 internationals. Most of his domestic goals were scored in Hungary, though; could it be argued that this was a lesser achievement than scoring in the Bundesliga?
You have to bear in mind that Hungary was a major footballing nation back then, it was very different to today.
