Tough one to bat back. I think Lascelles will want to go if they come calling to be Van Dijks partner.
But with him being on a long contract Mike will screw every penny possible out of them. It is Liverpool so he'll use the Andy Carroll valuation curve. On that basis I can easily see Mike asking for 1.5 x a Carroll.
Who do we replace him with if he does go? Leads from the back, contributes goals, head in the right place and doesn't give away stupid fouls. And wants to play here.
He’d want 50m. The problem comes if Liverpool decide to pay it. You’d then have to keep Lascelles against his will which normally doesn’t help anybody.
We just don't sell him. Not sure how many years are left on his contract but unless he is entering his last year we don't have to sell him. He may want to go but I don't think he is the type to unsettle everything and spit his dummy out if the Club said no and then showed ambition in this transfer window. On second thoughts get as much as we can so Pouchy and Ashley won't have to post a £90M loss for last season as well. Just say there are some very trusting individuals on this Board.
If I was him and this interest is concrete then I WOULD definitely be going. It is quite possible they will be champions league winners and the fact is the opportunity may not come again. You couldn't blame the lad either if he was to go. For me if we get £40 million plus I think its a good deal for us. HONESTLY I DO! He is not as good as you think!
Can’t see much in this. Would no doubt cost s fortune as is the case when buying in the Prem and don’t see us spending that kind of money on someone that isn’t an obvious improvement on what we already have. Imagine its all paper talk given in the sameness breathe they link us with another CB. Just know that we may be in for one as it’s a weak area so just throwing names out there I’d imagine.
It says he could be a backup, and he's happy here, don't see him moving to be sat on the bench,he seems a sensible sort and only 24?,he's got loads of time to learn and get better here under Rafa, but if Rafa goes who know's then
Tarkowski is more probable if it's for back up. They'd get him for less than the price tag Ashley would put on Lascelles I'd imagine. He'd be straight in the next England squad though if he went to Liverpool, even if he wasn't playing for them regularly. That's the way it works apparently.
Statistically the best CB in the EPL this year? VVD is maybe on par with him but Lovren and Matip aren't close to the lad so £80m it is then.
Its easy being in a back 4 with midfield in front of you and just being asked to head and kick away anything that comes near you. Not aaying hes a bad defender but its no coincidence that defenders in teams towards the bottom have better stats because they’re asked to defend more etc. I haven’t seen loads of him but weren’t you lot questioning if he was any good year or so ago?
What is sad about modern football for me. At one time you would have more power to keep a player. Contracts actually had meaning. Now the player and the agents just force your hand until the manager has to take action. I'd like to think Lascelles wouldn't go down that route but I would never assume it. The likes Mahrez, Van Dijk, Anelka, Bale, Modric, Torres, Yorke etc all made it totally unviable for clubs to retain them through tantrums, transfer requests, lack of effort, refusing to play, refusing to train, going AWOL etc etc. Their agents just guide them through the handbook of how to break a football contract. They justify their behaviour by saying how insulted they were by £100k a week offers and not being bought birthday cakes etc.
