There was an article on the BBC website about best and worst kits. This got me thinking, what are your favourite and least favourite Saints strips. My personal favourite was the Black kit with the red shoulder part. Least favourite has to be the horrible grey away kit we had, I think it was the year we got relegated from the Championship. The one they used Wayne Thomas to advertise...
My favourite home kit is this season's home kit. My favourite away kit is this season's alternate kit (yellow one).
Yes, this season's home kit has never been an issue for me. It looks very good indeed and smart with its pinstripes. As far as a favourite traditional red & white stripes go, last season's aap kit was excellent. The Brazil kit is the obvious away choice. Saints look brilliant when they start pinging the ball the opposition wearing the alternative colours. I'll always have a soft spot for the early 80's broad red & white stripes, when Channon, Bally, Keegan and the rest of the stars played together at the beginning of Saints most successful era. Hopefully, to be superseded by this one. I try to forget the bad ones. I grew up when the kits were getting smaller, so I generally don't like to see the players running around in tents and ultra baggy shorts. Hooped socks are also to be discouraged, and sadly, there have been a lot of those over the years. Coloured boots are beginning to grow on me though, whereas once I was a staunch supporter of the black boot look only.
The home kit the year we lost to Arsenal in the cup final (stripes with black outline) but I also like the Pony 'massive tick' kit, just brings back good memories.
Sorry, but it's just a strip. I want success for Saints in any colour (though preferably not blue). I love our present strip...we look a more serious side.
Better hope that Stoke and Sunderland go down, then; we cannot be allowed to play in the traditional kit while they're in the Prem, because years of conditioning among neutrals have led them to associate certain expectations with red and white stripes, and the contrast could cause severe disorientation and confusion.
I always 'hated' Sunderland for that, as I always leapt to attention when their stripes appeared before I realised it was a Sunderland player. Stoke would just make it worse.
Funny thing about the stripes, I always loved them but you just don't associate stripes with success. I's like to see more or less our current kit with the white just a tad wider. ("Tad" being a taylor/dressmaker term obviously!).
It's a fantasy design but I'd love this one - http://www.footballshirtculture.com...it-design/southampton-home-2013-14-21071.html
I can't see it with out thinking of Matt curling in 30 yarders. Anyway, check out Franny's tache please log in to view this image
