Bardsley sets sights on Europe Sunderland defender hoping for more new additions Phil Bardsley believes Sunderland can push for European qualification this season if they make further signings during the transfer window. Martin O'Neill is preparing for his first full season in charge at the Stadium of Light and hopes are high that the Black Cats can build on what they achieved during the second half of last term. Carlos Cuellar has already been recruited on a free transfer following the expiry of his Aston Villa contract, and Bardsley is confident of finishing in the top ten at the very least. The 27-year-old defender thinks Sunderland can even set their sights a little higher, especially if more players arrive to increase competition in the squad. "Carlos Cuellar has come in and bolstered the squad so it is great news for us and hopefully there are a few more faces on the way to help us head in the direction we want to go in this season," Bardsley told Sky Sports News. Asked about the team's targets for the season, he added: "Obviously finishing in the top ten and pushing for Europe, with the quality of players we have got in the squad and if we make additions, that should be our aim. "It is up to the players now to knuckle down in pre-season, work as hard as we can and be fresh for the start."
Our players are the best for talking the talk but very rarely back it up. need 6quality players in through the door and even if that happens Europe is still along way, lets just wait and see the aim is top 10, get off to a good start and take it from there
this - I AM sick to death of hearing the same old ****e being spouted. If i did that in my job i'd have been sacked.
Wouldn't it be so much better if they came out and talked about how poor our squad is and hope for avoiding relegation. Instead of this positive nonsense that Bardo seems to be talking.
We will finish in the bottom 6 next season, as QPR are showing more ambition than us, to get Park from Man u is exellent, W H U sign the russian striker and amazingly with less than 5 weeks to go we still have not signed the one player we needed, a striker!. Do you remember the season Reid sat as a punter during the 2002 world cup, and signed one player! Phill babb, then panick bought Flo !. Well we went down that season and talk of europe is a joke or season card pitch but i am not fooled. I said if Bent went we would go down as you need TWO quality strikers, so let us assume Campbell gets 12 goals, Sebb 7 goals then where after that ?, we need about 37 goals to keep us up alone, and will Sess be here? who is NOT a striker as he is too light weight and i hope M O N realises that.
Simply won't happen. Just because we haven't signed yet doesn't mean we won't. West Ham will do ok, QPR will do ok. I think we'll finish above both though.
