QPR’s Barton left nursing thigh injury

    Joey Barton of QPR

    11/01/2014
    By David McIntyre

QPR will assess a thigh problem that forced Joey Barton to come off during the first half of their 3-1 victory at Ipswich.

The midfielder picked up the injury early on and was eventually replaced by Karl Henry six minutes before the break.

His team responded well to the setback, with second-half goals from Niko Kranjcar, Gary O’Neil and substitute Armand Traore giving them a resounding win.

Rangers, third in the Championship, are at home to Huddersfield next Saturday.

to some on here joey is the new messiah
    showing everyone how to play
    best player in the division
    putting in the most effort
    blah blah blah

I have made it known that I hate him and everything the little money grabber stands for
cant wait till the day he leaves

anyway we should have been smashed in the second half because he wasn't on the pitch
do we really need him that much
because if it were up to joey
    HE WOULDNT BE HERE ANYWAY

I agree with you Kiwi on how you feel about the guy, but...

There have been quite a few games this season where we have needed someone to grab it by the balls, and JB has.

We need that man manager in midfield, I would rather it not be JB, but until we get someone better, he's gonna have to do...

Fair point about the second half except that a leader / captain can inspire the team whether on the pitch or not.

I can't stand the bloke, but he has played well this season.

I think it was the introduction of a dedicated sitting midfielder (Henry) when Barton went off that made the difference, rather than the fact that it was Barton who went off.

I wonder what would have happened yesterday if he hadn't blocked a shot on the line when the score was 0-0.

Yep........fair point. Maybe we would only have drawn as his block prevented a goal.

He wouldn't be on my dream dinner party list, but to be fair to him he has done what is needed so far this season (I was dubious about his 'holiday' sending off).
Not sure if the birth of his first-born has created a life-changing moment for him and altered his outlook and responsibility - just seems to have been the turning of a corner (new leaf?) for him.

Totally agree. I wouldn't have shed any tears if he had left for Marseille pre-season, but the fact he is still with us and playing well, compels me to at least support him.

Supporting QPR is like being married..... For better or for worse.... Etc

Hes done ok but then youd expect anyone on 60k a week to be the best midfielder in the division.

I don't think Joey Barton's change of attitude is due to any life changing modern day road to damascus enlightenment.

My belief is that he felt disrespected by the club following his treatment post-Man City match. Whether he was vindicated or not is irrelevent.

The psychology of it is basic human motivation - that we all have at work. As the Hawthorne studies proved many years ago, the more valued one feels, the better the work rate, motivation and productivity. Something as a club, QPR have struggled with over the past 3 seasons.

The secondment to Marseille took him out of a toxic environment and he's one of a few players who came out of the last season with some dignity and an opportunity to start again.

Harry Redknapp (and Tony Fernandes) welcomed Joey Barton back with a clean slate.

Unless there's a change in the respect or understanding between the two parties - either inadvertent or otherwise - I expect Joey Barton to carry his early attitude and performance through to the end of the season. At this rate, he will be on the short list for one of the player of the year awards.

Good post. Barton seems to feel injustice, actual or perceived, deeply. The fact that the club, and the majority of the fans, have welcomed him back has had a positive effect on him. He would be my player of the season to date.

Probably true. However, whether Barton DESERVED to be welcomed back after what he did at Citeh is another question altogether.

I think he saw the City incident as an injustice to him, having been elbowed by Tevez first. If he and Tevez had both been sent off, the rest of the craziness wouldn't have happened.

Our Premier League survival was in the balance and he simply shouldn't have done it.........let alone what went on AFTER he'd been sent off. I don't see how anyone can justify his actions.

Anyway, we've all been over this and its been done to death.

Champions league or championship? Can hardly blame him for wanting to leave in the close season, the big difference is that whilst players who aren't good enough for our position swan around like they don't care, Barton who should be in a top half premiership team is as committed as the like of Hill and Dunne!
