Neil Redfearn laments Chris Wood, Hadi Sacko removals

Neil Redfearn has told TV Yorkshire that Leeds United boss Garry Monk might have made a mistake by withdrawing Chris Wood and Hadi Sacko last night.

Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic at Elland Road as Shaun MacDonald's last-minute equaliser denied Monk's side three points.

The Whites had been leading for much of the contest as Wood's opener just before the half-hour mark, but the hosts, who missed a number of decent openings, failed to hang on.

Monk took off the jet-heeled winger Sacko for centre midfielder Matt Grimes with 25 minutes to go, before also removing Wood from the fold in the final five minutes.

And Redfearn has suggested that the former Swansea City boss inadvertently weakened United by making such substitutions last night.

He told TV Yorkshire: "Yeah I think a point was a fair result for both sides. Wigan were probably better than we estimated and I think the substitutions made a big difference.

"Wildschutt came on for Wigan and made a big difference - he looked really menacing - and obviously Chris Wood and Hadi Sacko going off. It seemed to weaken Leeds."

It is definitely two points dropped for Leeds and there is not quite so much optimism surrounding the team as there was, say, before the international break.

Monk's side have now picked up one point from six since the domestic football calendar resumed, following their 1-0 defeat at Derby on Saturday, and such form has taken the wind out of their sails a little bit it must be said.

The one positive for Leeds is that they are dropping points in games which could have easily been victories, given that they hit the woodwork twice at Derby and fluffed a few good chances against the Latics last night, and Monk will hammer that point home.

Not at all interested in Redfearns comments. He should disappear into football obscurity, along with his and Lucy's young "stars", Byram, Cook, Mowatt, Taylor and Philips.
They are not likely to be successfull in football either.
