I read somewhere last week that Wenger was looking to send Gibbs out on loan to an EPL team next season, so could be a decent short turn fix if Jose leave. and we could get PVA as back up.

Not for me mate, our defence is better than Arsenals and if he can't get a game there he should be nowhere near ours. If Jose goes we need an established LB or a very special youngster, Gibbs is neither.

No thanks, doesn't seem all that great defensively.

I'd rather play Ferguson than Gibbs or van Aanholt. Seems completely pointless to bring other clubs' youngsters here so we can leave our own in the ressies.

Agreed, we've done it all too often. We shoudl start giving these 'promising' youngsters a chance, Richardson, Ferguson, Vuckic, Ranger and Lua Lua should be given a chance next year.

My only fear is that Ferguson is essentially a left sided midfielder but Pardew has him on the 'steak and milk' diet to bolster his muscle definition and force him into becoming a left sided defender.

He looks great going forward but I don't think altering his bulk will make him a better defender per se.

I'd still look towards an alternate left sided defender where Ferguson can cover if required but play predominantly as a winger behind Jonas in the pecking order.

I could be wrong about these underlying concerns though and he may just be bloody brilliant.

I agree with this but feel that it may be asking too much of Ferguson to be the first choice left back if Jose leaves

True, but thats when we need to sign someone with experience that can sit in, do the job and help Ferguson grow into the role. Warnock wouldn't be a bad shout for a season, and he'd be cheap.

    Gibbs would be a waste.

I do think he needs to beef up a bit, if only to make his shirt more aerodynamic as opposed to its current wind-sail appearance!

He doesn't look really weak (Young Ameobi appeared to struggle with his strength more) but imagine him coming up against Jose - he'd get nowhere near the ball!

He needs to be stronger and fitter to play in the Premier League regardless of position. It's so intense that you need to be in peak physical condition. Ferguson is still a bit scrawny, he looks like a kid playing with men and it's no surprise he went off with cramp on Sunday.

Valencia looks as if he's bulked up a bit since his Wigan days and he's a much better play for it.

Ferguson, Sammy Ameobi, Richardson, Airey all need to bulk up to stand a chance, look at guys like Pattison and O'Brien. All had 'promise' but used to get knocked off the ball something chronic and eventually the manager loses faith.
