I thought it was about time we debated the thorny subject of Kieran Richardson. I have admired this guy since he first appeared for Manchester United and was chuffed to bits when we managed to sign him. As we know, the main problem with him is his lack of consistency. I know he has had more than his fair share of injuries which won't be helping, but I think the problem may be related to of all things, his versatility. Yes, having a versatile player on the books is always handy when the injuries mount up, but must surely hinder the the ability of the player to gain the same consistency that a player who plays the same position, week in, week out has. A subject that regularly comes up on our board is the left side of the pitch. Most of you will remember that Kieran was a left winger for Manchester United and during a very successful season long loan at WBA. The guy was fantastic for the Baggies in that position, but in my opinion has not been given a long enough period of time in that position to make it his own at our club. He's played left back, left wing, central midfield and up front in his time with us. Do you think, as I do, that he may benefit from the stability of a fixed position? After all, he did look a better player when he had a lengthly spell as our left back. Your thoughts please guys and gals.....
I would love to give him a run in one position. Unfortunately, due the way things are with our injuries, i can see him playing allover the park again.
I have said before that having such a versitle player as Richardson is priceless for any team but as druken says we need him to cover other positions first due to injuries, you wont see our real team until next season now thanks to our squad being under some kind of curse with injuries
Feel sorry for the lad, been pissed about all over the field, and positions, as a master tactition, Bruce is ruining, a half decent player IMO.
That's exactly my feelings about the lad Bill. How the **** is he supposed to settle into the team, when he doesn't know what position he's going to be playing from week to week and how is he supposed to get mentally prepared? It takes a totally different mental approach to defend, rather than attack. However, it's not going to happen any time soon, because of all the injuries to our team, the latest being Gordon. We'll probably see Kieran in goal next!!!!!
I would play him in Welbecks position vs Brummies which is just off Gyan until the end of the season.
Assuming he's fit, that is likely to be his position come Saturday. I doubt that he will remain there for the rest of the season though. From a personal point of view, I would rather see him put in at LB and move Bardo to RB for the match against Wigan. We need to be strong down our right flank to combat the threat of an in form N'Zogbia.
Yeah, good plan, but knowing our luck, whoever was given the job would probably break his leg! Then we can buy another crock to join our long list of crocked players...
Why does everyone think he's a good LB he's not even a decent LB. As said he's been played all over the place which is not his fault and if given a run in either a LW/LM position he would improve. I reckon SB will play him just behind Gyan till the end of the season as that is where he is the most effective. Having versatile players in your team means you have a weak team as they a good in one position but only okay in others.
I don't rate him at LB either, but with all of the injuries and a lack of balance in the team, we may be better off playing him there for the next game. I would like to see Sess in the hole behind Gyan. He didn't have a bad game at Brum and was very busy in the advanced position he appeared to be playing, and was unlucky not to score with the shot that was cleared off the line. My real concern is Elmo having to defend the RB position against N'Zogbia. Surely it would be better to shift Bardsley to RB for this match?
Agree mate not too happy with Elmos defending either but, we move Bardo and they just come down the left with Diame who scored against us last year with a screamer. I think we should give one of the young uns a start and make sure one of the CM players hold their position to give a bit of protection. Maybe even try 3 CBs Onouha, Turner and Bardo with a sweeper just in front of them again as cover, it'll mean a lot of leg work for the midfield but, it could be worth a try. Luckily for us N'Zogbia blows hot and cold so hopefully he's due a cold one Saturday or throws a strop again. Sess has improved and I'd not think twice about playing him on the wing it's just a shame Muntari hasn't sparked yet.
