Afternoon gunners!... Norwich fan in peace! Just wanted to know your thoughts on Kieran Gibbs. Now Clichy has gone do you think he will slot in nicely to fulfil your LB position? I personally think he will be a cracking player but is he good enough to step up to the mark now? Would he be a good dream team pick? The last few seasons I have treated Arsenal as my premier league team, but, this has now came to a end due to Norwich's dramatic rise through the football leagues! Look forward to playing you and still hope you can mount a good challenge for the title this year. NaaardigeBoy PS from an outside perspective Arsene Wenger is a legend and I really hope he proves his critics wrong this year.
We're all hoping that Gibbs can fill the LB spot successfully. He is a good player and reminds me of a young Ashley Cole. There's a big weight of responsibilty on his shoulders this season. I hope he can carry it, but my fear is that injury and lack of natural cover might be our undoing in that position
Wenger has said that we've got Traore and Vermaelen as cover if needed. The problem I see with that is, that Traore is not a LB, he is a LW and Vermalen is our best CB, so taking him out of that position would weaken us in that area.
General consensus is that he will be starting then, but, you do have reservations over his capabilities this early in his career. Let's hope he can fulfil the expectations and cement that LB role as his for many years to come. When he was at Norwich a few years back he was an outstanding prospect and one of the better players in our poor team (how things have changed for the better!!). Also, thanks for the loan of Henri Lansbury last season - he is a true gem and I for one would love to see him back at Carrow Road! NaaaridgeBoy
Gibbs was ok going forward today, although like pretty much any arsenal player against the by-line he can't cross! Got caught out a few times defensively and whilst I'm happier seeing him fill the left back role than I ever was with clichy, I think wenger may regret not getting a decent, older left back in to share the games and tutor him accordingly.
I thought he could do well in attack but holy **** was i wrong. In the entire pre-season his decision making once he is the final 3rd is abysmal. He keeps picking the wrong options. His crossing is Gael Clichy standard. Traore has been far better, imo. That guy is a lot more direct with his dribbling and has a decent enough cross on him. Gibbs is wasting his massive chance to become an Arsenal first team player.
Gibbs is better defensively than Clichy IMO. Clichy needed someone behind him shouting 'get rid' and Wenger actively discourages talking and organisation on the pitch as defending properly isnt playing football 'the right way'.
I'd rather Gibbs stayed put at LB and passed the ball to Arshavin or Gervinho to do the attacking LW play.
