CSKA Moscow dealt a very hefty punishment for their racist chants during their home Champions League game against Man City... They will have to close part of their stadium for their next Champions League game... The horror! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24749146 Absolute joke IMO, to show how seriously we are taking the racism issue, we are fining Serbia £65k for racist chants, but we fine Nicklas Bendtner £80k for showing pants that weren't of an official sponsor The bigger joke is how Russia have been allowed to host the World Cup in 2018. We want to "kick racism out of football", so we give the worlds biggest football tournament to the most racist country out there? Ahh rant over...
I agree with you that the CSKA Moscow punishment is ridiculous - they should have been made to play their next home fixture in the competition at a neutral venue in a country such as France etc ... a shame to punish the majority (hopefully) of their fans for the actions of a few (by comparison) mindless morons, but it would at least set the bar for them and other clubs and encourage 'self-policing' to some extent by a club's own fans ... You can't 'cure' racist attitude overnight - it will only come from education - and actually holding the World Cup in Russia is a great opportunity for such education ... FIFA can make it abundantly clear that racism at the tournament will not be tolerated (as it will not be in football generally) ... also Russia are not alone ... seven Charlton fans got jail sentences yesterday for chants on a train glorifying the killers of Stephen Lawrence ...
