QPR In Talks to Sign Celtic Midfielder as Veteran Striker Looks Set to Make Championship Move

Loftus Road line up yet another quality signing.

Helguson heading to Cardiff as Mackay closes in on striker

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is signing QPR striker Heidar Helguson on a free transfer.

The former Iceland centre forward, 34, is not part of Mark Hughes’ plans at Loftus Road.

Mackay remains keen on adding Craig Bellamy from Liverpool. QPR are also continuing to consider a move for Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-yueng, 23.

Owner Tony Fernandes said: ‘Discussions are continuing with Celtic.’

Given the amount of striking options that QPR have, with Mark Hughes having more than half a dozen strikers to call upon, it seemed inevitable that one or two would be heading for a Loftus Road exit.

Heidar Helguson has served the West London side well and impressed in Premier League action last term but his first team chances were limited following the arrival of Djibril Cisse in January and will have been further compromised by the signing of Andy Johnson.

A move to Cardiff City should help the 34 year old secure regular first team football and he is sure to be a success in the Championship.

Mark Hughes has brought in some real quality signings thus far this summer, as well as the aforementioned Johnson, the likes of Robert Green, Ryan Nelsen, Samba Diakate, Junior Hoilett and Park-Ji Sung have arrived at the club for a relatively small outlay.

Now co-owner Tony Fernandes is ready to finance a move to bring in impressive South Korean Ki Sung-Yueng who has been very effective since his move to the SPL three years ago.

The 23 year old has been a consistent performer at Parkhead but perhaps the allure of a move to the Premier League will tempt the midfielder into pushing for a Celtic exit, which could prove more likely given that the SPL may become something of a one horse race this season, with Rangers suffering demotion.

Ki Sung-Yueng has racked up 85 appearances for the Glasgow club, netting 11 goals and securing an SPL title in the process.

Interesting that the Ki story won't go away (he sounds promising enough).

I rate HH higher than Bothroyd so would not want him to go.

Somehow I don't think our Tony would openly admit to our discussions with Celtic. He's very transparent as an owner (in his words) but when it comes to transfers he keeps his cards close to his chest, as we have seen all summer. I have my doubts about this article.
