Kevin Phillips has joined Blackpool on an intial 1 year deal with an option of further 1 year. the search for a striker goes on then.
Yes. You didn't expect Phillips to join for the kind of money we're offering do you? If we cannot secure the Rhoys Wiggins transfer, I'm not sure why you thought we'd even try for him. It was established a while ago that any players we signed would not be "names we'd heard of". Forsyth and Mirfin fit that mould - expect more of those kind of signings.
At Phillips age it becomes more than just money, my hopes on him were based equally on him passing on experience to our young guns as it was about him playing. Super Kev has made his money and i am sure a 1 year deal at Blackpool will not change to much for him on that front. Watford have a reputation on helping people progress their careers and i heard Kevin say that he would like to do a little coaching in the future. As with regards to Wiggins did he actually meet with Sean/Watford if not i reserve judgment as to how close we did get to that deal fee agreed or not.
TBH I doubt he was ever on our 'radar' - he simply doesn't fit the stated mould of young(ish) targets who could be developed and sold on at a profit. I've yet to see stated anywhere that that policy has been scrapped.
I have to agree with the above comments, it be interesting to see if we go for a player who plays non league football? also I presume he will give Deeney a chance to prove himself at championship level.
I heard him say before that he'd go to a promotion contender in this league which Blackpool potentially are..well more likely than us!
