Well for those who don't or haven't heard this weeks they had Kevin gallen on. Long story short magic hat has been well and truly shafted by the club...

    What's happened to him?

Didn't he come back in some capacity a couple of months ago or did I imagine it?

yeah listened to it today. shocking treatment given to a player who played nearly his whole career for the club.
you couldn't blame him for being bitter.

Basically he had his job at the academy taken away from him and only got told about it via email, when questioned it fell on deaf years by the powers that be.

Seriously you don't treat a club legend like that ffs

king kev was part of the youth coaching system with his brother steve.
he was basically sacked by email and when he applied for other positions within the club he didn't even get a reply.
download this weeks open all R's podcast on playback media.
it's always well worth a listen

    Bang out of order.
We are looking increasingly like a club that has lost its soul.

Saw him the other day in coaching kit and gave him a pat on the back, i hope it hasn't tarnished his time in his view

Sentiment is a great thing, but what if the Gallen's weren't cutting it in their roles?

Might it have been handled better?

    Evening sku

Yes I agree to an extent but begs a question why he was taken on to begin with then sacked by email?

Something doesn't sit right with me and clearly someone down there ain't got a clue

listen to the podcast and you'll understand why we've got no youth players coming through anymore.
he was saying Chelsea, man utd and even reading and Watford haven dozens of coaches and spend millions on training. we had 5 members of staff and spent sod all.
he was in a no win situation.

So are you suggesting that he needed more money for training?

He failed / was sacked due to lack of results??

he says he wasn't given a reason. he was told to reapply for his old job and then turned down. marc bircham was put with the reserves.
in fairness to the current board they have brought in a lot of scouts and placed a big emphasis on underage coaching.
we won't see results for several years but its a start.

People can't just get sacked in this day and age. Employment law favours the individual.

    Doesn't make sense to me.

    Doubt his lying mate !

Mind you what you say is true but only if your contract was bound by employment law, ie if you was doing something voluntarily, I dunno..

    Don't doubt it either.

A meeting and a simple statement saying it wasn't working out but wish him all the best would have allowed him to have some well earned dignity.

There will always be additional factors we are unaware of but I have made the point many times we can only guess and will not know the full picture and that it is why i'm constantly surprised at some of the views on this board. Above about employment law is absolutely right, you can't just bin someone these days.
Cisse is a great example. Many have moaned about him this year, he's not interested, useless twat, not performed etc. The club have dealt with it by regular stints on the bench. The last thing they would do is issue a statement saying by the way the reason he's playing crap is cos his marriage has fallen apart. I've been there so I i Know how crap it is especially with kids involved. We only get a snapshot. Just like any business MH and TF etc will be making decisions based on a load of factors beyond what we simply see on a Saturday.

That's what happens when we get an owner who is neither a fan of the club or a lover of football. There's no sentiment. TF may have better relationship skills than the two goons but at the end of the day, he considers himself a businessman and he will be ruthless if required. Such a shame. Loved Gallen. Wish we could've seen more of him in the prem. Him and Sir Les upfront. Would wipe the pants off our current strike force.
