For me....the best player I have seen play and a true Town legend. Always had time for the fans and would happily have a chat about all things ITFC.
    R I.P Legend!

I was so lucky enough to watch him play when I was a young kid standing on my milk crate with my Uncle.

He was so exceptionally talented but cursed at the same time as Bobby wrote in his autobiography. The greatest ever Town player without question. That's hard for me to admit as my favourite player of all time is the great Johnny Wark of course! Kevin had all the power, pace, strength and ability to make him the best player that Sir Bobby had ever worked with. He could jump so high he could tell you time time on the Town Hall clock! They fed him raw meat as his pre match meal! The guy was a monster!

We shall never see his like again!

RIP Kevin. In his prime years, he was arguably one of the most underrated central defenders in English football.

Since I heard this very sad news, I have been contemplating where I would place Kevin Beattie in a list of the best players I have ever seen live.

At the age of 65 and been involved in football for pretty much 50 years, I've seen some good players in my time. Beattie is undoubtedly one of the best talents I have ever seen. At his peak he was just awesome and full fitness permitting, he would have been up there with England's greatest.

I feel down tonight at the news of his passing. He came across as a decent man and was a terrific footballer.

    RIP The Beat.

It's hard not to feel sad. He would have been a million miles from the well-documented problems of recent times had he played in the modern era.

It's ironic that we talk now about defenders playing it out from the back instead of clearing their lines and laud Manchester City defenders, yet here was a man whose first touch under pressure would find a team mate from 40 yards.

    Bacon will miss the Eggs!

I wonder how much in today's era The Beat and Big Al would be worth together??

Everyone lauds Hansen and Lawrenson but for me our CB pairing in the 70s was the best of all.

If Harry Maguire is worth around 40 Million then our Kevin would be worth treble that!

Nevermind Hansen and Lawrenson, I look at Van Dijk and Sergio Ramos and Vincent Kompany and for all their defensive prowess I don’t think they are as good footballers as Beattie was. I think you have to compare him to Moore and Desailly.
