Getting back to the OP I just hope that Kevin can now get on with his life in peace. He deserves so much better after the way he was treated by the club after he was forced to retire. I have never known anyone to be so blessed but so cursed at the same time. If his knee's hadn't been smashed by the time he reached 28 he would have gone on to play over a 100games for England. His troubles all started when he played for England with an injury and it got worse until he had to have an injection before every game he played. I can see why you lot are taking the piss but to the majority of us Townies of a certain age he will always be idolised.
I watched Beattie a lot of times in the 70's,probably saw a hundred games down at the Stadium of Gloom.Had he been a modern day centre back he would have been in the Ferdinand/Kompany bracket and no doubt earning a hundred grand a week.I don't suppose he would have needed to fiddle a few quid off the social. The thought occurs to me that if ITFC can bale out Chopra it wouldn't be out of the way to help Beattie.
If he was playing today he would be in the £20 Million transfer bracket without doubt. He was originally a Striker when he joined us in 1971 but Bobby had other ideas anc converted him to a CB. Bobby used to say that Beats could leap so high he could tell you the time on the Town hall clock. Sorry for the the lament but this is a thread about the great man and I make no apologies for idolising him. He was never perfect and he was always getting into scrapes with Warky, Hunter et al but when he pulled that shirt on he was ****ing awesome. We have never had a player that good since!
It never had the intensity of Carrow Rd.I went to Ipswich first and the contrast with Norwich was immense. It could have been the relatively flat layout at PR that didnt create the same level of noise.
I was at college and my mates were Ipswich fans.I wasn't really into football but just went along with them to matches,as much as anything for the booze up afterwards. The first time we went to Carrow Rd for a derby match I just found myself cheering for Norwich.Throughout the 70's and well into the 80's I went to both on alternate Saturdays.
