We think we or the "Binners" have problems! Read this and weep! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19859492
It's conference south too. Really worrying when they've got problems and their owner doesn't have time for the club, and doesn't want to write the checks to save them. £1.2m in debts is nothing to the big boys. Is it wrong to have Kettering FC sponsored by Chelsea?
To think if every premiership player donated 1 days wages to kettering, then their debt could be wiped out. Horrifying to think just how much money is with the big boys when you look at it like that. Was it Ebbsfleet that got taken over by the supporters?
The money is bad enough but when you get a complete idiot like Balotelli sulking after being substituted yesterday, the same idiot screaming in agony and holding his face afterr being caught with a high foot in the shoulder then you do really worry for football long term. Kettering have been in trouble for some time and are in freefall. I have mentioned Truro City who are in a similar position. They need money sharpish and yet they didn't have a fixture yesterday so no income whatsoever. They have until Thursday to lodge a bond with Conference South or they are expelled. Suggestions nayone?
and to think that about 10 years ago they were being touted as a club very, very likely to get in to the football league! They had some good years and looked an okay outfit and now it's all gone tit's up for them - very sad indeed.
Its a real problem. Kettering have some real competition in their area whereas NCFC have nothing. Do they spend money they haven't got and push for the league? Or do they just hope they can make it with what they have. Truro have competition with rugby down here. My son and I went to some matches. Then the internet gives us the opportunity to watch NCFC, while we are in the Prem, so Truro are missing out on £22 every home game. And that is amplified so many times. But if you are a Prem club who has a very bad season you are rewarded with a parachute payment! Madness!
Oddly enough, as with several league clubs, they spent money on developing their ground in readiness for the push to L2. As with many others, that was the beginning of their problems as far as I can make out. please log in to view this image
But if you don't have the correct facilities you can't go up the leagues. Whatever decisions these clubs make they are brave ones with no safety net. To be quite honest, if we are relegated and aren't available on the internet, I will think of going to Argyle every other Saturday and try and do my bit.
I Checked this out and Kettering are not in the conference south, they are in the league below, the evo stik southern premier and they are rock bottom. Totally in freefall given they were in the conference premier Very sad state of affairs. I don't know the details but guess it is down to financial missmanagent Wasn't one our kids there a couple of seasons ago, a winger, can't remember his name. Now released by us
Something about the stadium i reckon, previously owned by Rushden & Diamonds who are now out of business is now in the hands of kettering who look like they are about to go the wall too. Such a shame!
It is a big problem for lower league teams having to compete with the large clubs and all the football on TV. Do you think they should change the KO times to try and draw in more supporters. Even if that means moving away from "traditional" KO times of saturday afternoons.
I personally think that youngsters are too much into wanting to support the top team. You don't see many City, Wigan or Stoke shirts in Redruth. You here them dismissing teams other than Manure or Chelski as "crap, useless". Kettering would have very little chance even if their KO times didn't clash. Without a new young fan base germinating every new season, they have to rely on the die hards. And you can't expect them to pay £50 to watch. While clubs continue to buy from abroad, hardly any lads are going to come up from the conference so there is very little transfer money. Who would want to be a Chairman of one of these clubs?
Its quite shocking how far they have dropped, I know bashleys ground quite well and it is basically one step up from a village playing field! what would be good is if professional clubs can somehow sponsor these clubs and use them as feeder clubs for their younger players.
Didn't AVB mention this a year ago (or so) that Premier League clubs should 'buy out' smaller lower league clubs and use them as B and C teams so effectively feeder teams like they do in Spain where Barcelona have a B and a C team in the lower leagues, it does have it's plusses in that there is stability but it rips apart the heart of local football if Kettering were to become for example Leicester City C and therefore had no allegiance with their own community. In fact I did actually write a dissertation on this... But I won't bore you with any of it, I often fell asleep writing it so it clearly was a thrilling read
I'll have a dig around, shouldn't be hard to find 20,000 word ring bound dissertation lurking around, however I used Sheffield United as my case study as I was living in Sheffield (as a student) at the time. I could also post some of my interview data - the bloke I spoke too at the supporters group was so Yorkshire it sounded painful, luckily my lecturer dabbles in Yorkshire to English translation so I managed to make some sense of him
Crawley Town will probably move in there if they get promoted to the Championship! Their current ground isn't fit for non league football. Perhaps they can rename the team to something like Crawley Cobblers or Crawley Diamonds!
