Strange that talks about his future at QPR were signalled publicly. I took that to mean that he is likely to be told that he isn't guaranteed to be our number 1 next season and the club wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to go.
I would assume hes going since Hughes didnt want any talks over extending his contract. Good job too as he is not a PL goalie.
Personally dont think he's as bad as been made out to be. Had to be hard behind an ever changing back 4!!
I'd like him to stay but not be guaranteed the first team slot. If we bought someone like Given or Foster, as I would like, I think he might be warming the bench most of the time. Of course, telling him this might encourage him to leave. I expect we'll find out on Thursday.
I'd be well happy if we signed Given and Butland, and Cerney can be number 2/3 for a season or 2. That would give us a great structure and then if Butland is as good as they say in a couple of season could progress to number 1 nicely.
I don't imagine Given would bee too happy if he signed for us and we then brought in Butland, similar scenario to his time at Man City with Hart...
With Cerny already signed up as the #2 he must surely be going. I can see no way in which MH would not be recruiting a new keeper in this window.
From the Yorkshire Evening Post """""""""""""""""""""" Leeds United: Whites will have to wait on Paddy Kenny Paddy Kenny. By Leon Wobschall Published on Tuesday 29 May 2012 07:00 Leeds United’s bid to bring in Paddy Kenny has been cast into doubt – with Queens Park Rangers unlikely to sell before they bring in a top-class replacement. The Yorkshireman, 34, has been strongly linked with a move to United, having played under Elland Road boss Neil Warnock at Rangers, Sheffield United and Bury. The future of Kenny, about to enter the final year of his contract, is set to be discussed shortly, with the keeper hoping to be offered a new deal at Loftus Road. An improved contract was discussed prior to QPR’s sacking of Warnock in January, but talks later scheduled for the first week of February did not take place. Rangers have since made enquiries about a number of keepers, including Aston Villa’s Shay Given with the R’s board expected to sit down and discuss transfer targets this week – with the mantra being that players will only be sold after a replacement in that position is brought in. The goalkeeping position is also thought not to be among Mark Hughes’ overwhelming priorities, top of which is sorting out the future of disgraced midfielder Joey Barton. Kenny, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2010, started 33 Premiership games for the West London club in 2011-12, missing just five top-flight matches. Warnock has also been strongly tipped to raid his former club and make moves for ex-United midfielder Shaun Derry and defender Clint Hill, while forward Tommy Smith is the latest Hoops player to be linked with a move to Elland Road. Hill, 33, – named Players’ Player and Fans’ Player of the Year in 2011-12 – was recently offered fresh terms by R’s boss Hughes and is thought to be keen on remaining in the Premiership, as is Derry. Thirty-two-year-old Smith is down the pecking order at Loftus Road and with his chances expected to be limited next term, could be allowed to move on. Norwich City boss Paul Lambert has again been linked with a move for unsettled United skipper Robert Snodgrass, subject of a failed £3.5m bid last summer. Lambert managed the Scottish international at the start of his career at Livingston, where he also played alongside Canaries attacking midfielder Wes Hoolahan and has been a long-time admirer of the 24-year-old. SPL giants Celtic are also thought to be tracking Snodgrass. Meanwhile, United target Paul Green has been drafted into the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2012 squad. The midfielder was initially put on standby by national boss Giovanni Trapattoni, but has now been called up as a replacement for the injured Keith Fahey. A number of Championship clubs have been linked with a move for Green, including Leeds and Ipswich Town. Green is available on a Bosman free transfer after turning down the offer of a new deal with Derby County and while keen on sorting out his future at club level, the 29-year-old is now also turning his attention to international matters. "with the mantra being that players will only be sold after a replacement in that position is brought in." Hope this Yorkshire Evening Post statement is correct - particularly for Centre Backs and Central Defensive Midfield players where we are very short!
Tommy Smith too. Is Colin setting up a nursing home? Derry 35, Clint 34, Paddy 34, Smith 32.......all that little bit older than when they last played a 46 game season, and probably not up for it even if Leeds do get into the Prem next year. One thing it does show - Warnock has absolutely no scouting system, relies on old boys and the six other managers who still talk to him.
What you talking about, these players with Adel and Mackie are the core of the team that took us up to the PL! They would be great acquisitions for Leeds, if they get them, and for our sake I really hope Clint and Derry stay another season at least.
From the scratchingshed """"New Contract For Lees, Paddy Kenny To Follow? posted May 29, 2012 / 3 Comments Promising young centre-back Tom Lees has signed a new contract to 2016. Lees signed a new contract last summer, but has impressed in 45 appearances at the heart of the Whites defence. His new contract will see him gain parity with others in the squad. Lees is held in high regard by Neil Warnock, with the gaffer admitting in March: I don’t really want him to have publicity like that, but when I was at Sheffield I’d got a young lad called Jagielka. They are very similar; Tom’s probably (even) a little bit quicker than Jags. He’s a very promising young man and to get in the team at this stage of his career and get games under his belt can only serve him well. I don’t want him to change his game. I think he’s probably been a shining light since I’ve been here. I don’t think he’d put a foot wrong. His game has improved, as has the intelligence in his game. He’s taken on board what I want from him. Meanwhile, former Yorkshire and England skipper Michael Vaughan has tweeted: Playing golf with the next Leeds United keeper today… Paddy Kenny… He hasn’t announced it yet but it won’t be long… Loves Warnock.. Kenny has been widely linked with Leeds along with a string of other QPR players. QPR are rumoured to be searching for a top class keeper, but won’t let Kenny leave unless one is signed"""""""
