We moved from Liverpool to Scotland in 1969 so I'd seen Dalglish on TV every week in the 70s and knew exactly what we were getting. My Celtic mates were devastated. It's just a shame we didn't get Danny McGrain as well, the only two Jocks I've ever wished were English.
Kenny was so humble that when asked was he there to replace Kevin Keegan,he said ''Nobody could replace Kevin Keegan'. He also said Liverpool as a club were incredibly humble, the players who at the time were League and European Champions acted as if they hadn't won anything and wanted the success Kenny wanted.
Oh what a player and what a man.It must be hard for him to see the likes of Paulson and N'gog wearing the red of liverpool. When you look at those old clips all the players there were legends but what they don't show was his overall game, his link up play with Rush was at times telepathic. He was a real team player and bought all the others into the game with his intelligance and ability.Quite rightly voted greatest liverpol player of all time (and there were many who could have got it) he did it in a time of really poor pitches and old stadiums. What would you give for a season of kenny and rushie in their prime with Barnes in that hard to fill left wing position....mmmmmmmmmm dreamy!!
Possibly the greatest player to have come out of the UK bar none,He had everything,an equalled will to win,a heart of a lion, courage and thats not mentioning his genius. He made the impossible look easy, he pulled things off that lesser players wouldn't dare attempt. Kph,his partnership with Rushie was devastating. When you think of the two,you can either see the Kenny through-balls to Rushie which he would convert,or Kenny scoring and then the arms stretched out and that beaming smile. There is no question that he has to be Liverpools number 1.
Alan Hansen once said ''Greatness can be described in only 3 words....Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish''. I can't remember who said this but ''Bob Paisley made bad players good players, good players great players and great players Kenny Dalglish''.
