That was jumping the gun. He is one who's never been on my radar to be honest. He's a Irish international and a regular first teamer for Blackburn. From what I've heard he's a CDM. He is obviously going to be of a certain standard to play 80 games over three seasons for Blackburn but since I have rarely gone anywhere near Blackburn for my fantasy league team I've never kept an eye out for him.
TWTD has obviously seen the Star piece now - it looks like it's a season long loan. He only played a handful of games last season so obviously Kean doesn't rate him and he was one of big Sam's players.
I had him down as a box to box midfielder similar to Bowyer and Leadbitter but if he's played CB he must have some defensive nous. Good signing if true.
From what I can see, he's turned down Leeds but there are 7/8 clubs interested, but he's made his mind up. I cannot see anywhere that he has defo come to us. If true, a cracking signing I feel.
What do we have that Leeds don't? He has turned down Leeds - his agent has confirmed that he's decided who to join - he doesn't mention Ipswich by name but IMO the rumour together with his agent's comments make it look like a done deal. So that's now Bowyer, Stockdale and Andrews that Town have beaten to Leeds and now we have those it will surely feel to others like a good place to be. This is Sky Sports story: Andrews: Is set to leave Blackburn on loan and looks likely to join Ipswich after rejecting Leeds Blackburn Rovers midfielder Keith Andrews has turned down a loan move to Leeds United and is tipped to join Championship rivals Ipswich Town. Andrews is being allowed to leave Blackburn after the Republic of Ireland international made just five Premier League appearances last season. A clutch of Championship teams have been chasing the 30-year-old, with Nottingham Forest also rumoured to be among those interested. Leeds were also keen to sign Andrews, however, his agent Will Salthouse has confirmed he will not be heading to Elland Road. Best opportunity "Keith won't be coming to Leeds," Salthouse told the Yorkshire Post. "Leeds are still interested (in the future), but he just feels there's an opportunity somewhere else and at this moment in time, it's the best opportunity for him. "There may be a change in the future, but at the moment, he won't be coming. "I had a long chat with Simon (Grayson) and (technical director) Gwyn Williams. It was a close decision, but he won't be joining. "There have been seven or eight of the top Championship clubs interested in him and the decision has been made on the fact that he's found the club where he's comfortable and feels he can develop again."
Westlake - the Evening Star are saying it's us. The rumour came from the Archant printing press when the first copies came off in the early hours. I think they weren't publishing the story online to try to get people to buy the paper.
At one point, weren't we concerned about attracting players to the club? Seemingly the tide has changed given recent developments. Happy with this one if it does go through.
Only a few weeks ago Rushmere. Maybe the Wickham cash and missing out on players has led Clegg and Evans to loosen the purse strings a little for wages.
It was Paul Ince who took Andrews to Rovers in his short spell in charge having been fairly successful (in his first spelll) at MK Dons. Andrews was class for them in League 1. Some would probably say he was head and shoulders above and has looked half decent in the Prem though not able to maintain consistency at that level. I had him down as a more box to box CM along with others but I dont think we'd sign him for that. I imagine we'd play him in a more holding role and from what I've seen he's got a decent range of passing on him too. Looks like we will have an array of options in the centre of the park this season.
Would love this signing to come through. Andrews has shown that, on his day, he can be a good Premiership midfielder, and I think it's only consistency and a couple of manager changes that have hampered him really. In the Championship, I think he could be absolutely brilliant. Well done PJ, Clegg and whoever is involved if this goes through!
I think it would be a great signing. I remember a couple of years ago being surprised that he was managing to get into the Blackburn team ahead of many quality players at the club but if I remember rightly not too long ago there was interest in him from bigger clubs in the premier league!!! Clearly Kean is not a fan and he has dropped down the pecking order. Another astute signing by Jewell. I think we are have our reputation again of being a properly run club, the manager Jewell seems to be very well respected within the game and I think along with the other signings we have made this is an attraction. Like I said on another thread other than Leicester and us tranfers made by other championship clubs don't really excite. I think we can now see that maybe Clegg was not the problem getting players into the club. Mr Keane has alot to answer for.
He's completely mediocre, had Ince not gone to Blackburn, he'd never have got anywhere near the Premier League. We let him go to MK Dons on a free, when he was 25, which probably tells you all you need to know. He'll probably look better playing in the Championship, having just dropped down from the Premier League, but he's certainly no Jimmy.
Dont know much about this chap, but to some extent I take on board what the Hull fan said - this guy looked great at Div I, never played Championship because Ince took him with him to the Premiership. Logic says that he should be plenty good enough for this level. I know that he is not a defender outright, but arguably if the midfield are doing their defensive job they should be protecting the back line anyway. On balance, he looks like another good signing.
I heard he once flicked a boggy at a teacher. Do we really want this type of person at our club. Lets try for Julie Andrews .
That's true up to a point Leeds-18, but we sold our prize asset for £8m, I think maybe you're mistaking us for Leicester!
