I remember watching him a lot in his prime and thinking he was quality. Let's hope it's still there somewhere.

Surely Kieran Westwood was a member of some 90s Irish boy band?

Who cares, as long as he can catch and roll the ball to the nearest QPR player which is official club policy.

    Keiren Westwood joins QPR

    Matt Webb @QPR

GOALKEEPER Keiren Westwood has joined QPR on a contract until the end of the season.

Following David Marshall’s hamstring injury at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening, the club have moved quickly to secure a replacement in time for Sunday’s Championship fixture against Peterborough United.

Fellow ‘keepers Seny Dieng, Jordan Archer and Joe Walsh are also unavailable through injury.

Fighting at the right end of the table feels fantastic and the challenge ahead is something I'm really looking forward to.

Westwood is able to join outside of a transfer window as he is a free agent and QPR have one available space in their 25-man squad.

The 37-year-old stopper, who has been training with Crewe throughout this season, said: “I'm delighted to be here, really excited.

“It's the business end of the season and it’s really exciting to be involved in it.”

Westwood revealed he was watching Rangers’ game at the City Ground and thought he may get the call after Marshall sustained his injury – and he is now ready for action this weekend.

"I got a phone call asking me if I fancied it - obviously I did,” he said. “I was actually watching the game and saw David go down. You never want to see that but I thought I might get a call as a result.

Looking ahead to his R’s debut this weekend, Westwood added: “It's a big game but that's what you play football for – for moments like this.

“To be fighting at the right end of the table feels fantastic and the challenge ahead is something I'm really looking forward to.”

R’s boss Mark Warburton added: “We have been very fortunate to get someone of Keiren’s experience in. He has been training every day and is in great shape. He hasn’t played games recently but has vast experience and he is desperate to do well.

“All parties should benefit from this. We have a senior, quality goalkeeper at short notice and he gets the chance to play in some very important games and use this as a shop window for himself.

“I am delighted to have him on board

With our luck with keepers I expect him to break his toe getting out of the bath tomorrow.

Quite a few people seem to be annoyed we haven't signed our dream goalkeeper in what amounts to our second emergency loan this season.

Ultimately, this guy is no fool on the pitch and knows his trade. The only question mark is his agility at age 37. But keepers can be older. There's plenty if top keepers at his age.

He's got 2 arms and 2 legs, which is a bonus at this stage.

Agreed. FFS we have no goalkeepers at the moment so instead of criticising perhaps some constructive suggestions how we resolve the problem without signing someone wouldn't go amiss.
