The News today printed a story( http://www.chichester.co.uk/sport/p...ecided-as-barker-plots-pompey-deals-1-5939280 ) about 14 players who will be out of contract at the end of the season, though one of them listed by the News is a loanee. I thought I'd list them here and ask the forum which would you keep and which would you let go. The list is: Nicky Shorey Marcos Painter Jake Jervis Daniel Alfei Ashley Harris Jed Wallace Adam Webster Yassin Moutaouakil Phil Smith Ryan Bird Trevor Carson Bondz NâGala Thery Racon Jack Maloney
Nicky Shorey - Keep Marcos Painter - Let go Jake Jervis - Let go Daniel Alfei - He'll go back to Swansea Ashley Harris - Keep Jed Wallace - Keep Adam Webster - Keep Yassin Moutaouakil - Let go Phil Smith - Let go Ryan Bird - Keep Trevor Carson - Keep Bondz N’Gala - Keep but only as injury cover Thery Racon - Keep Jack Maloney - Hasn't really been given an opportunity to be fair
Nicky Shorey - Keep Marcos Painter - Let Go (unless Shorey departs) Jake Jervis - Keep Daniel Alfei - only on loan to us Ashley Harris - Let Go Jed Wallace - Keep Adam Webster - Keep Yassin Moutaouakil - Let Go Phil Smith - Let Go Ryan Bird - Keep Trevor Carson - Keep Bondz NâGala - Keep Thery Racon - Let Go Jack Maloney - Let Go (unfortunately) Only offer 12 month contracts to players we retain, otherwise we will end up with players we are "lumbered with" like Johnny Ertl
I would keep Nicky Shorey Jed Wallace Adam Webster Ryan Bird Trevor Carson Thery Racon Possibly keep Jake Jervis but only if he can get a good partnership going with Big Pat or Ryan Taylor. Phil Smith he's a decent goalie, I'd rather keep him than John Sullivan Let go Marcos Painter Ashley Harris - he's lost his way. Bondz NâGala - too inconsistent Jack Maloney - haven't seen him play so don't know if he's good/bad/indifferent Daniel Alfei is on loan so will go back to Swansea. Yassin Moutaouakil has already gone. I'd rather get rid of Sonny Bradly than Johnny Ertl. I know he is out of favour and early on he was off form but he's a decent defensive midfielder, we were getting more points when he did play, Bradley is a liability.
The bit I am struggling with......again, is why the news, a paper supposedly to be devout supporters of the club, would want to print a story on a match day, that is several weeks old in news to every one else......surely with modern media and how quick news links work this unsettles our players, they did it last week and the week before on match days....... for me as some one who uses the media for my businesses, this is pointless, serves no interest to the club and can be a major distraction to every one involved!
It may be that this is Richie Barker's way of challenging the players to earn their new contracts. Reminds me a bit of Steve Cotterill. I heard (no idea if it's true or not) that his (Cotterill's) HT team talk once was to point at certain players and say "You're a ****" "You're a ****", "You're a ****" and so on.
