NORTH KOREA 'ON THE BRINK OF NUCLEAR WAR' WITH SOUTH KOREA North Korean Deputy Vice Minister Pak Kil Yon warned the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday October 2,2012 By Charlotte Meredith for express.co.uk Have your say(1) A SENIOR North Korean minister has lashed out at the United States, warning that its "hostile" policy has left tensions so high that "a spark of fire could set off a thermonuclear war" in the peninsula. Addressing the final session of the U.N. General Assembly's annual high-level meeting today, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Pak Kil Yon said the increasingly precarious inter-Korean relations have resulted in the area becoming "the world's most dangerous hotspot". The speech was the first time a representative of North Korea has addressed the General Assembly since Kim Jong-un assumed power after the death of his father in December last year. Much of the speech, in which Pak pledged to use the North's "mighty" military deterrent against any "reckless provocations", focused on North Korea's continuing state of war with the US more than 60 years after the Korean War ended with an armistice, but no peace treaty. "The only way to prevent war and ensure lasting peace on the Korean peninsula is to put an end to the U.S. hostile policy towards the DPRK," he said, using the initials of the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The DPRK's patience does not mean it is unlimited North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Pak Kil Yon In an apparent reference to North Korea's nuclear arsenal and massive military, Pak said his nation's "patience and self-defensive war deterrent," have prevented U.S. military provocations "from turning into an all-out war on the Korean peninsula." "However, the DPRK's patience does not mean it is unlimited," he warned. Pak argued that Washington's intention has been "to destroy the ideas and system chosen by our people and to occupy the whole of the Korean peninsula and to use it as a stepping-stone for realizing its strategy of dominating the whole of Asia." "Today, due to the continued U.S. hostile policy towards the DPRK," Pak said, "the vicious cycle of confrontation and aggravation of tension is an ongoing phenomenon on the Korean peninsula, which has become the world's most dangerous hotspot where a spark of fire could set off a thermonuclear war." Since 2003, the U.S., Russia, China, Japan and South Korea have been trying to negotiate a disarmament deal with North Korea that would halt its nuclear program, but the North moved ahead, conducting a nuclear test in 2006 which led to U.N. sanctions. The North walked away from the talks in 2009 and later that year exploded its second nuclear device. So far, efforts to re-start the six-party talks have failed. Pak said the United States has finalised scenarios for a new Korean War and "is waiting for a chance to implement them" and impose military rule after an invasion. The latest military drill in August involving more than 80,000 troops from the U.S., South Korea and seven countries that fought with them in the Korean War "drove the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of war," Pak said. While the government aims to build "a prosperous and powerful state," Pak said, the North was right to build a strong military and "war deterrent" as a "mighty weapon" to respond immediately to provocations and confront any aggression "with a just war of reunifying the country." Referring to the new leader as "our dear respected marshal," Pak said the current South Korean government has "caused the worst situation in North-South relations." Previous South Korean administrations had sought reconciliation between the two ideological enemies and an expansion of economic co-operation, but Pak stated these progressive steps were now "null and void."
I send my old QPR shirts to a family in Gambia. Will try post a picture later as they look brilliant.
And Syria have mortared Turkey and Turkey have retaliated The world is getting a little less stable. I blame Mark Hughes myself....it is his fault...wrong tactical formation
Ticking time bomb but QPR remains more important than any dust up... Why? Without maybe knowing it we are always and will always be living through a war somewhere on this planet. We have no powers and few options to prevent what we all have to live with. In protest to this I find myself chanting **** **** **** at the BBC news as they dish us up another plate of **** with very essential hand movements. The story is worth more than the situation. When the UK gets involved then this nations pride rises like a nasty rash and we then focus on episode after episode of fallen heroes on the news as the body count reaches one two and three figures. There is never a mention of the hundreds and thousands we depose of as emeries are left to stack up in what you could only describe as a landfill It's all for a good cause they peach as the rebels are backed or slaughtered by us ... A higher force? In a game of greed ... War what is it good for? Loads it seems
Something must be wrong as I fimd myself entirely agreeing with you this time, DT! The BBC have sunk very low, not only did all that Jimmy Savile stuff go on but Newsnight was overuled when they tried to report on it. As for their political coverage it's a farce on the home front and on the international stage. Those of us who are fortunate enough to understand another language can see how deep their censorship runs. Despite my avatar I have no connection with the DPRK nor much time for their particular interpretation of Marxist-Leninism. Their military is incapable of launching an offensive on the South and is essentially a defensive force trained to resist to the last and in depth. To suggest otherwise is just more Western propaganda. The West sas destroyed what advances the DPRK managed to achieve case in point being that the North was up until the mid seventies more advanced and prosperous than the South then ruled by a military dictatorship. We should not be so naive as to think that the PRC would sit back and let the US attack the North. History shows otherwise. Myself I blame Stalin for the whole situation. In the summer of 1945 the Red Army halted at the 38th parallel in accordance with the Potsdam Agreement. They waited there for weeks for the Americans to arrive. Big mistake and one that has cost hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives over the past 65 years. The other side of the story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6Orpmtz1wI&feature=related
The BBC is a joke these days. I only have Radio 4 and 5 Live left these days and R4 is like listening to the Guardian FFS. BBC breakfast news has been reduced to - (Token middle aged white male presenter) 'And in Aleppo Syrian military forces have bombed residential areas with reports of hundreds of men women and children dead' (Eye candy 30's something white female presenter) 'And now over to yet more coverage of Strictly Come Dancing' WTF???????? I've actually started watching Russia Today as its rolling news is excellent plus its presenter-babe central.
RT is ok until it descends into conspiracy theory insanity such as Nazis under Lake Vostok and such! Al-Jazeera gets worse with with every passing month as it's in the thrall of the bastards who run Qatar and who are pushing for an invasion of Syria due to their visceral hatred of Shia Islam. Lies wherever one looks, Fox and Sky are far from the only culprits.
And i agree with you what is the world coming to.. You are on the money .. Let's meet and have a baby now!
exactly blame the yanks! they waited 2 years before entering the war and that was only because Japan refused to go down the playoff route. they were due to play South Korea!
Never mind what Pak said, Park said "If you play me out of position again I will initaite all out thermonuclear was against Mark Hughes".
The Great Satan never misses a game but as the Book says "the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of the donkey". As for our paper tiger of a manager who believes he has the mandate of heaven it's time to consign him and his fellow imperialist running dogs to the dustbin of history!
