So Roy Keane has said that he wasn't the right fit for the Ipswich job and that he made a mistake in not meeting Clegg before he signed the contract... Well it's no revelation that he couldn't have been further from being Mister Ipswich Town, but why on Earth, from our end, was he offered the job without the key man interviewing him?? How is that even possible? Hearing this man's name connected with our club makes my heart sink. Please, someone, Dig a hole and ****ing bury him!
Wherever it is that Keane crawls out from, its a lot smellier than 'the woodwork'. Put him back with the mushrooms!
Magilton was in the Grauniad a fe weeks ago, still complaining he wasn't given enough time. Funny, cos I thought he wasn't given enough management talent, but there you go. And Keane will go down in history as the mistake we learnt from in order to go back up to the PL.
In fairness to Magic, I think he would've learned from his mistakes. At the time I thought he'd nail it in his next job. His main problem was trying to manage his buddies. With hindsight we would've been better off giving Jim another season or two, nothing could have been worse than the Keane-era, it's a wonder we didn't drop down a level.
Fair point. I was really fond of him as a player - was lucky to be at Home Park when we waved him off - but he should have moved on to learn his trade at a lower league. Sorry, going a) off topic and b) over old and pointless ground. Now, let's get on with being 'Ipswich Town' - everyone else's second favourite team!
As an outsider with an interest in Championship football in general (as opposed to a binman hater) I always thought Jim Magilton was doing a reasonable job considering he had little or no real management experience prior to the appointment. Given time I think he would of had Town going in the right direction. Alas it's all water under the bridge now. The rest, as they say, is history. For the sake of your club I hope the situation improves
Magilton said he was at Shamrock Rovers to give the manager the benefit of his managerial experience at Championship level! You couldnt make it up, no wonder nobody will touch him with a barge pole.
Who's your favourite Norwich team ever?? Would it be the most successful team in your history, the team who won the Milk Cup??
Getting back on track - maybe Evans approached him and interviewed him directly, hence the non contact with Clegg. Regardless of how he was appointed he cant make excuses for being the must clueless, uninspiring, defensive, imcopetent bore of a manager that has ever walked through the gates at PR. He cant blame Clegg for putting out a team of 4 cb's and 5 cm's then complain about lack of forward movement. Nor can clegg be blamed for our woeful defensive displays, our backwards midfield or the fact that we had strikers who never had chances during a game due to Keanes defensive minded play. Great player he may have been but like Souness, Bryan Robson and a whole list of others, being a great player doesnt equate to being a great manager
