The Council should decide - they were elected to make decisions on behalf of the electorate. And - as pointed out - the city could not afford the cost of stadium expansion, should it be necessary.
The difficulty with a referendum, in my view, is twofold. First and foremost, paying for it. It would be, in effect, a complete election campaign requiring polling stations, counting staff, documentation etc etc. It would cost much money. Secondly, what question will be asked? This is not a simple issue there are many alternatives under consideration. Which combinations do people prefer. Also someone has to agree on a fair way of phrasing the question in an impartial way. The you will have many legal questions that need addressing related to the referendum. I don't think a referendum will be organised and I was amazed when Vrady first mooted the idea.
I agree that it's a stupid idea. You can't hold a public referendum on something that's a sporting issue. Quite simply, there are too many stupid people out there, people who hate sport and would vote against it just to annoy people like us. My girlfriend would definitely fall into that category, she completely can't understand the popularity of sport and any sort of mention of football just annoys her. I'd hate it to go to referendum just so that people with that attitude could spoil it for the better informed minority. It also pissed me off how the council seemed to complain about Burnsy's on air comments on the topic before the Cardiff game. He put it better than I ever could have and got the message across on air to anyone listening who might not have understood, I was really impressed with him for that but seemingly the council complained to the BBC about it because before the Brighton game he had to give a public apology for interfering with public policy issues or something. Bullying tactics to get their own way, much?
1_ pateince on the stadium issue as its getting boring at the moment. like 2 girls pulling each others hair over who's dolly is it ? lol 2) great news on cammy stewart and by all accounts is faster than ever. glad that full on contact is back in his programme now. 3) waghorn is due back against watford according to reports in the media. we shall all have to wait and see.
From the Clubs official Facebook feed: Having spoken to the club's medical staff, they're cautiously optimistic about Martyn Waghorn's chances of being fit for Saturday. Corry Evans should be fine for the weekend despite coming off with a dead leg against Brighton. We'll have 'The Medical Report' on our website later today
The Fail is reporting that the "referendum" is back in play.....possibly: http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-13620083-detail/story.html
The article starts off likes Brady is trying to build bridges, then he backs Geraghty and takes another pop at the Allam's, it's not going to achieve anything.
You will not get anywhere on the sale of the stadium until dinosaurs like Geraghty are voted out of office. His ilk are living in the past and Hull will not move forwards till they are out.
I gave Paul Baxter a bollocking this morning, for doing a piece on Hull City's owner trying to buy the KC and them using a picture of a Hull FC game. It wasn't them though, it's a news article, not a sport article, so he plead not guilty.
Seems that Blunderside are no longer discussing the subject. On breakfast show a guest, George the Taxi driver, was discussing the 3 items in the local paper, his third was the HDF story:- http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-13620083-detail/story.html? As soon as he started to talk he was taken off mike while the station cut to another item. Seems they may have become sensitive to the issue since Burnsy had to retract his forceful pro Allam's KC Sports Village statement.
These people are still discussing it, haven't been gagged by the council. 33 to 42 minutes is about the stadium. http://www.hullcityindependent.net/?page=news&news_id=747
Lets not forget the most important issue here...Hull Fair!!! However would the City manage without such a global event?
