The forgotten man is top scorer in Ligue 2. After having a look at some of his goals, surely he's good enough for us. He's definitely a better finished than Mclean and could give us someone desperatley needed goals next season.
He must have one leg if he's considered not good enough for us. When you look at our useless strikers. He was never really given a chance. Did he ever get a start upfront ? Or was he played out of position on the wing ?
He had a half-decent game against Bolton in the Premier League, when he scored the winner. Otherwise he was ****.
I reckon Barmby should give him a chance next season, he is a decent player, he played pre-season this and last season then boring Nigel shipped him off to Ligue 2 clubs, Barmby has an open mind, although Jay Simpson may disagree
He got 8 starts for us, along with 8 sub appearances. Other than the Bolton game, he was pretty rubbish in every game, particularly in reserve games when he was supposed to be making a case for inclusion in the first team. I can understand those that say he didn't get a fair shot, in the game following the Bolton game, he and Altidore should have started up front together and had they done so, things could have turned out differently. That didn't happen and afterwards, he did himself no favours. He's doing well in the French 2nd division, which is at best League One quality, he simply wasn't worth the £2m we paid for him and he's definitely not the answer to our lack of goals.
ligue 2 is definitely league 1 quality at least.. it's normal we hype our british football but I'm not convinced we would beat some of the lower league teams in ligue 1... imo npc is somewhere in between ligue 1 and ligue 2... either way, he did **** up with us but who knows he may have a different attitude and improved his performances... i'd say it'd be worth trying, we are paying most of his wages after all. We did buy mclean from league 1 team.
Problem is for us now he'd be out on the wing anyway. He's not a lone striker so he'd have to play wide, although I wonder if he'd do well as the alternative to Koren in behind a striker. Either way, it won't matter if he hasn't got the attitude to put the effort into getting in the team.
His attitude was not good enough for us and he didn't really seem interested in the reserves games and pre-season matches that i saw him in. The foreign game is far different from ours many players do well abroad yet fail in England. So doubt he will get a chance here.
I think the main problem would be that I don't think he wants to play for us. He may well be scoring goals, but I doubt we'd see commitment from him. Additionally, Party Hull once saw Kamel Ghilas in St Stephens Tesco (this pre-season actually) in a full grey tracksuit, deep in conversation on his phone. I earwigged, but he was speaking French. Or some such language I couldn't understand anyway. We'll say French. He's small.
Im caught between the 2 camps here - are we cutting our nose off to spite our face with a player who is probably our 3rd highest earner, or do I remember the striker who lined up at Wigan away in the cup and was the closest I had seen to John Moore in a City shirt for many a year?
Knowing a thing or two about French football as I do, I would say the French Ligue 2 is somewhere between our League One and our Championship in standard. There is very little to choose between most of the teams in the league. But I don't think Ghilas would be as 'sucessful' in the Championship as he's been so far in L2. Not just because of the higher standard, but it's not just as physical or demanding as English football. I think he's a bit too much of a light-weight.
I think it's a case of double standards with a few of the posters on here. Alot of people on this board begged, and still beg, for Olofinjana to have a run in the side. He has never done anything in a City shirt, bar the goal against Stoke. He got his chance the other week against Blackpool, and was quite frankly awful. He bottled numerous challenges and lethargically ambled around the pitch, in addition to being walked around for Ince's goal. Yet Ghiles had a few decent games for City, most notably the Bolton game and a cameo against Man Utd away when he looked really dangerous, I don't every remember him being 'sh1te'. He's certainly made more of an impression on me than Olofinjana.
I'm one of those who thinks he didn't get a fair chance. And from the good bits I've seen I would say he is a different class to Mclean. However............. if he hasnt got the right attitude the he can stay in france.
I saw him coming out of Westwood Restaurant Beverley once with a Frenchman (Mouyokolo) and there was a good chance they were speaking French at the time.
I thought he did well for us in the league games he played. At the time he seemed to be like a skillful version of Craig ***an but I think his reputation has been affected by the stupid price tag and wage we gave him and the fact he disappeared. I'm pretty sure if we were offered someone who was scoring for fun in League 1 (Wright-Phillips, Rhodes, Madine, etc.) we'd all agree we wanted that player, so if we already have a player scoring goals at that similar level you'd think it'd be worth a go. I'm not saying I totally agree with the OP; I can see the arguments against Ghilas, but I think he'd be worth a go next season. I reckon his attitude is probably a bit dodgy, and his Ramadan stuff doesn't help in a physically demanding league where you need your players fit and healthy all the time.
Please don't refer to yourself in the 3rd person again, it threw me and I had to check who'd made the post while I was reading it.
