Alex Kacaniklic has returned to Fulham. Sad, he was brilliant while he was here. maybe a signing in the summer?
No chance. I dont think Fulham will want to sell him and even if they did I doubt we'd be able to afford him.
He did a great job whilst at the club. He wasn't quite as consistent as Kightly (nor should he be expected to be), but he provided us with desperately needed quality wing-play. Also noted that Trotta has gone back, just a shame for him that Garner, Deeney and Iwelumo all hit good form just after he joined! Best of luck to both in the future. But no, there's no chance we'll sign Kacaniklic the summer.
There are rumours elsewhere suggesting he was recalled out of spite regarding the treatment of Trotta. An interesting theory.
Notwithstanding recent performances, the weakest area of our team is up front. That was debateably the case even when Sordell was here and Murray wasn't in the picture. The place was Trotta's to give away, and that's precisely what he did. Alex on the other hand was up against two players who on a good day are strong Championship players, and consistently annihilated them. The simple fact is that Trotta did not show that he was good enough to merit a place in the team. Fulham have a remotely competent set of staff, and will therefore be aware of this.
North North, I completly agree, but I wonder if Fulham saw Britt come in and overtake Trotta in the pecking order and got upset? I think Alex is a big loss. He wasn't in the game as much on Saturday, but he was always a threat. And the opposition knew it.
Quite possibly, although it's worth pointing out that Britt put in a very similar performance to Trotta and has been treated in exactly the same way since. Ironically, Britt will probably get another chance this season because of Alex's departure.
I dont think its fair to judge him on that one performance. It was against the league leaders and every player looked poor that day. Since then our 3 strikers have been performing quite well. Deeney in scoring and working his arse off!! And Big Chris has improved greatly since the start of the year (when "he was un-fit and probably should have said he cant play" Dyche.) and we could see that against Ipswich.
I've always gone on the "if you're parachuted into the team, you've got to perform from day one" principle for loanees, and Trotta is no exception. He had a chance, didn't take it particularly well, and didn't impress well enough in training to get a second one. I've got no doubt that he'll go on to be a decent player, but for whatever reason he didn't succeed here. The timing of Fulham's actions is unfortunate, because the perception is that he is being treated like a spoilt brat, but ultimately I don't know or care why they recalled Alex. While bad news for our outside playoff hopes, it's great news for people who will probably be in first team contention next season.
My first reaction was its a tit for tat recall but then this is professional football and you'd hope that he's been recalled for a good footballing reason. That good reason should be for the players positive development or the needs of the team both which are eminently possible.
Whatever happened it was short and sweet for one of the two loanees. Trotta gave me the most hope of the two when they signed, shows what I know, he was more Rodney than Del to be fair. I am sure Mr Jol didn't recall them out of spite. He doesn't look like the mafia type that would hold a vendetta !
The fact that we didn't use Trotta just proves that our own strikers were doing as well, if not better, than he could. That has to be a pleasing situation to be in, considering his reputation. As for Kaciniklic, it's a real shame, but again, hopefully we have in Forsyth, Yeates and Assombalonga...players that can cope with his departure, and hopefully not make too much difference to the balance of the team. I'd like to give Assombalonga or Forsyth a try, and perhaps bring Yeates on as a supersub
Morning Hornets. Fulham fan in peace here. I've had a soft spot for Watford ever since my ex's old man ran the catering at Vicarage Road a decade or so ago and I went to a couple of games. Martin Jol is quoted on the Fulham website as saying that Kacaniklic was recalled 'for a purpose' and is in the squad to face Norwich today. Since he's never kicked a ball in anger for us, I wondered what we can expect from him if he is involved in the coming weeks. What type of winger is he? Someone who likes to get crosses in early, or more like our other young wide player Frei who wants to beat the entire opposition every time he gets the ball? Incidentally, you might be interested to know that the player is out of contract at the end of the season, although I assume we'll want to keep him at Fulham.
Hi there. I think you can expect someone who loves to run at a defender. He took on some of the best the championship had to offer and beat them. He puts in a good cross too. I really like and rate the lad. I would be more than happy to have him back at the end of the season. He would be almost certain of first team football if he plays that well all the time.
Belated thanks for this - I've been away since the game on Saturday. As you'll have seen, Kaka came on after 35 minutes for our enormous Russian centre forward Pogrebnyak (one unpronounceable player for another!). He showed some good touches, put a couple of inviting crosses into the box, had a glorious right footed lob tipped onto the bar by Ruddy, and even had the ball in the net at one point after the ref had already blown for offside against him. Our second half performance was a bit ropey, so he didn't get to show everything he's capable of but looked composed on the ball and confident. He also looked disciplined and held his position well when we were defending in the last quarter of the match. General consensus around the Cottage was that we'd like to see more of him, especially with Pogrebnyak to aim at in the box.
