Even more stories about Spurs chasing young Alex with a figure of £7m being thrown into the mix - generally being Cash + Huddlestone or Defoe (rather than âas well asâ). This link is one example going the rounds: http://www.footballfancast.com/premiership/tottenham/tottenham-keen-on-7m-swede I fear this is going to our drawn out transfer saga this window. The Club are not in a terribly strong position having only taken up the one year option on his contract. What we donât know of course is whether that was the Clubâs best offer (as opposed to giving him a healthy new contract) or whether it was all that Kaca (and his Agent) would accept at this time. Regardless of that, Iâd be very unhappy if we let him go, for two reasons:- 1. Yes weâve made some decent signings so far but itâs very much a re-building. To let a promising squad player leave now means that weâd be stuck in a position where we are constantly trying to pull the situation back on track. 2. It flies in the face of the (alleged) policy of âletting youth come throughâ. Sadly though we are where we are. If we sell him there would still be cash left over even after we paid for, or were given, a replacement. And there is the risk that he could walk out for nothing in a couple of years.
Much of the mindset at FFC baffles me in respect to the transfer market and terms of contracts. Kaka i understand was not given a contract extension above that what he has at the moment. On the other hand Trotta who in my opinion and many others,( Brentford included ) will never make it as a regular, in a much lower division team, gets what,? a three yr contract signed just 2 months ago. "So shilly shally Fulham,"and we will have the following. ONE ~ He will go free in one years time TWO ~ He could sign extension (if we can get our act together, perfect senario) THREE ~ Take Huddlestone and say 2/3mil now. My option would be the 3rd one,but i fear that option one could be what we finish up with.
Won't be at all happy if this happens. I can accept clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea picking off our players, but Tottenham? They are not miles ahead of us. Without Bale, this season the two teams would have been a lot closer, not to mention if they hadn't have taken Dempsey and Dembele too. Kaca is our most promising youth player and must be kept at all costs. If Spurs want him, it has to be for £10m+ but we all known Daniel Levy would never pay for a player the value he's worth.
Didn't Kaca announce a few weeks ago that the extra year option had automatically kicked in? Pretty sure I remember reading that.
Of course, even if Kaca is only under contract for two more years we should be considering tying down players like him. He's young, with a big upside. Which would be exactly the reason why Spurs might be after him...
I liked him whenever I saw him last season but I hope we don't get him. If we get rid of Huddlestone, I'd rather we got cash for him as we need a left winger that's good enough to start regularly for us as we already have Sigurdsson and Dempsey who can do a job out there if needed. I haven't seen many links to him though and we've been linked to a million and one other players so it might be a case that there's very little in it and with your interest in Huddlestone in January they're just shoe horning a story together, there aren't often player swaps in football, especially with Levy involved.
Hiya yid - I think you may be largely right with your assertions. We all know that Levy likes to see cash. You will understand us getting a bit jumpy and cross having lost Dembele (and Dempsey) with horrible timing last year - that really damaged our season. Whilst many of us here really like the idea of recruiting Huddlestone, I think the majority have bought into the idea of long term renewal, through the youth programme (even though some of those are recruited at 19+) - so that losing Kaca would for many of us be too high a price for him. Mind you, Kaca will have a good season 13/14...so we better get him onto a decent longer contract. I think, as you hint, that this is one story (maybe founded on your 2+2 idea) that has been rehashed and republished by a hundred sources
I know I will be slated for this so before the abuse starts I would like to state that I would ideally like to keep both of them but ..... Out of the the two I prefer frei and would therefore seriously consider a bid of £7 million for kaca!! I really would like to to frei given a long run of games this season
I agree that we really want to keep both of them. You might be right about Frei long-term, but I think Kaca is a more dependable option right now, possibly because he's two years older. If Frei has a better season with injuries, I think we'll see a lot more of him - starting some games, coming off the bench for others - and then we'll be in a better position to judge this time next year. It's nice to have two young players competing for the same position, but we will come to a point where one of them either has to move on or shift position if they are both going to develop their full potential. Right now I prefer Kaca.
