If we didn't have him, we'd have to invent him.

He is a glowing example of Southamptonishness.

We need to get Ralph using it in interviews as well!

You can't imagine James playing for any other team can you, other than England of course. And I know we've said this before about other players who shall remain nameless, but he seems to exude the spirit of the club.

One person you can add alongside JWP is Matt Targett. Genuine dyed-in-the-wool Saints fan from his earliest years.

    Wasn't JWP born in Skatesville?

Indeed he was, but that doesn't count for a jot, does it..?

Matty Targett. Born in Winchester and rabid Saints fan with zero interest elsewhere. Could be a one-club career player. You never know.

Sorry didn't mean to quote you TSS. What I meant is I'm not sure that JWP is actually a Saints fan.

    No that's OK.

According to Wiki, all of JWP's family are/were Pompey fans at the time of his joining Saints as an 8 year old. However, they were obviously sensible, to get him to join the Saints Academy, just like the lad himself.

I don't think it's my imagination to remember that they've attended loads of Saints games since JWP became a 1st team member.

Pretty sure Oxlade-Chamberlain was the same as well wasn't he?

If you are referring to comparisons of potential club loyalty, OXO was different. He had ex-Pompey Mark Chamberlain as a Saints coach and father, who looked for the main chance for his nipper as early as possible, and besides, Saints were League One at the time.

If you just mean that OXO was born in Pompey, then yes.

Obviously fertile ground. Good job they have a club nearby which can help them put their potential to use.
