LIVERPOOL principal owner John W Henry says Kenny Dalglish would have been sacked as manager even if the club had won the FA Cup last season. Henry insists the decision to dispense with Dalglish and appoint Brendan Rodgers was made solely on the Reds’ dismal Premier League campaign. Dalglish, who won the Carling Cup and oversaw a narrow 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley, paid the price for their eighth placed finish. “The FA Cup would not have made any difference had he won it,” said Henry. For us we were 17th over the second half of the season and Liverpool should not be in that position. “I don’t place the blame on Kenny and Steve (Clarke) – but I think it was obvious to every Liverpool fan that something was wrong and something needed to be done. “We had a very poor second half to the season last year. I think that you could say the response to Kenny and Steve (from the players) was lacking. The play was lacking so that entered into our considerations.” Henry is full of admiration for the job Dalglish initially did in transforming the Reds’ fortunes following his appointment as Roy Hodgson’s successor in January 2011. “When I first discussed with Kenny making a change before he took the job, we discussed what role he would take at some point,” Henry added. “He did say that if it was the manager’s job, he would only do it until we had the right man to come in for the long term. “He was always saying no one man is bigger than the club. Everyone knows what it meant when he came back, how he did right the ship and brought all the disparate elements back together.” Dalglish was criticised for his handling of the Luis Suarez-Patrice Evra race row last season but Henry says that didn’t influence the decision to change managers. Henry said. “That did not come into it. No one issue is going to determine the long term viability of the club.” http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/live...-the-club-had-won-the-fa-cup-100252-31475974/ Obvious to every Liverpool fan? What's obvious is you don't know what's obvious, John-boy. It should be obvious that dropping from the form of 2nd to the form of 17th in half a season is not natural and requires complex analysis and time - that stuff everybody's saying we now have to give the new guy - to sort out. It should be obvious there were all sorts of parameters involved and it was not something you, with your limited knowledge of football and your poor choice of advisors could discern. Your guru, Billy Bean, advised you to hire Damian Comolli and you sacked him after a year and your media advisors failed to advise you at all during the Evra hype. That much is obvious. If it was always your plan to replace Dalglish with a younger man the time to do that was June 2011. That much is obvious. You bottled it and now you're bull****ting. "We don't want to put any pressure on Brendan by saying you have got to make the Champions League this year...I thought it was realistic last season but we were so far off that pace. At this point we're just trying to get things stabilised – that should be one of our goals." Why was it realistic then but not now? It was not realistic to have such high expectations after giving Dalglish a three year contract to get it done. We were rebuilding and Dalglish took that to be the priority. The progress Tom Werner said was all you were looking for as he glugged champagne from the Carling Cup in the Wembley dressing room had been achieved. There was much to be hopeful for, which was far more than the form of 17th over a selective period you've focused on. But in baseball the only thing made of wood is the bat so no wonder you don't have a clue. I expected us to do better this season because we'd made progress in a tough rebuilding year. The law of averages says we couldn't hit the woodwork that many times two seasons running. That much is obvious Do not piss on my shoes and tell me it's ****ing raining, John-boy.
Manchester City 3–0 Liverpool Liverpool 0–0 Stoke City Bolton Wanderers 3–1 Liverpool Wolverhampton Wanderers 0–3 Liverpool Liverpool 0–0 Tottenham Hotspur Manchester United 2–1 Liverpool Liverpool 1–2 Arsenal Sunderland 1–0 Liverpool Liverpool 3–0 Everton Queens Park Rangers 3–2 Liverpool Liverpool 1–2 Wigan Athletic Newcastle United 2–0 Liverpool Liverpool 1–1 Aston Villa Blackburn Rovers 2–3 Liverpool Liverpool 0–1 West Bromwich Albion Norwich City 0–3 Liverpool Liverpool 0–1 Fulham Liverpool 4–1 Chelsea Swansea City 1–0 Liverpool Above are games 20 - 38 in the league, I mean it's actually even worse than I thought looking at it. You can not expect to continue as Liverpool manager after such results - we all have a soft spot for Kenny but this isn't on.
He was right to sack Dalglish, anyone who plays Lucas week in week out deserves to be kicked out. Even Brendan is saying the team needs to be built around Lucas. How is building a team around mediocracy any good???
Did we make progress in the year? Kenny certainly made progress when he first came because we played good football, scoring goals and winning games. Unfortunately, he wasted quite a bit of money on players who simply did not perform. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but we simply overspent on the wrong players. We did win the Carling Cup and got the final of the FA Cup which were great achievements in itself but the money spent should have gone a lot further. Carling Cup is good but it's not the best trophy (but I suppose beggars can't be choosers).
Manchester City 3â0 Liverpool Liverpool 0â0 Stoke City Bolton Wanderers 3â1 Liverpool Wolverhampton Wanderers 0â3 Liverpool Liverpool 0â0 Tottenham Hotspur Manchester United 2â1 Liverpool Liverpool 1â2 Arsenal Sunderland 1â0 Liverpool Liverpool 3â0 Everton Queens Park Rangers 3â2 Liverpool Liverpool 1â2 Wigan Athletic Newcastle United 2â0 Liverpool Liverpool 1â1 Aston Villa Blackburn Rovers 2â3 Liverpool Liverpool 0â1 West Bromwich Albion Norwich City 0â3 Liverpool Liverpool 0â1 Fulham Liverpool 4â1 Chelsea Swansea City 1â0 Liverpool So there are 7 terrible/embarrassing results. And only 3 of the standard we want at the club.
That Villa game for me as well, we just had no energy at all against a team who were just ****, the only team worse than us it seemed at the time.
Agreed, and although Arsenal at home wasn't embarrassing as such, we still played them off the park which made the result a whole lot worse
Does he mention anywhere exactly where we were in the league when Kenny took over? does he mention he dragged us up from near the relegation zone to close to a CL spot the season before...all in the space of 6 months? Hmmm such short term vision eh...oh well on with plan C.
I will never live down the 4-4 at Anfield. It was another one sided gamem we dominated and Arsenal just had 4 chances and that sh1t meerkat looking mofo scored from every shot.
Nah, it's my mate - been arguing with him for days! Doing my head in! His latest insult was that Lucas is poor/average ...
I thought Kenny should have had another year, always another chance to correct the mistakes you make ( Rafa should have had the same back when as well). But you have to look at what the **** happened? We were right then in January I think it was 3 points off fourth, in the FA cup, in a Carling Cup final, etc. Lucas was already injured, should have got that covered, Gerrard was in and out of the team and was a hell of a gamble on bringing back Jonjo and again, not looking to see if we could find an experienced player, even if it were on loan ( City with Pizzaro for example). We couldn't score and while we were dominating many games we just couldn't finish and it was killing us. January we could have looked to sort it but we didn't and the misses continued to pile up. I just can;t get my head around how we went from 3 points off 4th to on par with Fulham and Swansea in the 8-10 spots. When you have spent that kind of money, the kind of "war chest" money we had been craving and then slip to 8th it is pretty disheartening. That money and spendature should have seen us go from 6th and the 2nd best league form to continuing that league form and those new additions kick us up into 4th. Again, probably should have had another season to right it but it wasn't to be. move on. next chapter time.
