Well, we got screwed over in our 50th match by cheats so I declare our Invincibles to be the better side than Juventus' 49 game unbeaten team.

Our league is more competitive, meaning there are fewer easy games than in Italy (though our lot with their abject displays are doing their best to redress that inequality). So on that basis I reckon Juve would need around 60 games unbeaten to match ours.

Generally, is Italian football in decline? I heard their once filled to bursting grounds are empty these days.

Yep, its nowhere near the run of 58 games unbeaten by AC Milan between 1991 and 1993 when the Italian league was the best in Europe.
