It's that time of year again, where I do a review on our manager. Why before the season has ended you may ask, well there is a psychological reason for that - at the moment we don't know our fate with two games left to go, so for me that is perfect timing for a review, it avoids the adrenalin rush of play-off hopefuls or the disappointment of what could have been. So let's look back before I start; past reviews have accused me of being a Hessy lover, other reviews have seen me receive praise for probably my most scathing attack ever on Mr negative himself PT in a blog titled 'Disgraceful.' And of course who could forget MadDog, I always felt his departure was wrong but he did receive one proper good slating from me in 'Youth v Experience' - so let's start; Well Mr Edinburgh certainly fitted the mould in my opinion, from lower league football (go away glory hunters). The man from the Welsh valley's, well Newport County to be precise, ok I know where he's really from. He certainly started the season well against Sheffield United. After supporting this club for over 40 years, you learn to recognise quite quickly when something special comes along, although I think Gazza was my quickest on record. But that day on Saturday 8th August 2015 - I said quite quickly it was one of the best games tactically I had seen for a very long time, I went on to say this season is going to be special and I was not proven wrong. Who would have predicted top six for most of the season before it begun, enticing us and flirting with the autos, at one point just off the top of my head we were about 11 points clear of 7th. Yes, we made mistakes along the way, but he's allowed too, after all you could always go and be a Coventry supporter, or ex Premier Blackpool fan or even Sheffield United & Peterborough. So before you cast those stones, whatever your opinion we are still in with a chance, much more so than the Sky Blues! We don't have the finances, and as has been mentioned elsewhere we are a division three or division four outfit in old money. If you want more go support Manchester United or Arsenal, I hear Leicester is a good lower league supporters fanzine these days, or you could even go support that club up the road, oh yeah how could I forget, they are relegated! The importance of that word relegation. We have been secure all season, we have had one of our best season's in a very long time, and so what if we don't go up, there will be some decent fixtures again next season to wet our appetite. So thank you Mr Edinburgh, if Mr Scally even thinks about getting rid of you, I personally will arrange his psychiatrist. Whoa, but be careful Mr Manager, I can also be your biggest critic and as well has your biggest appraisal. You did mess it up though in my opinion but overall you gave us at least a look-in, a chance. Next season you will need to come into your own and that will be your biggest test for the judge and jury of GFC fans. I expect Dack will go if we fail in promotion, I just hope Mr Scally gives you all the dough to rebuild team, no pennies in the chairman's coffers please, he can have his reward hopefully a season on at the end of 2016/17. You need to clear out though, I want to see a young pacey side, solid at the back, I don't want us keeping old players because they did it for us in the past, rebuild and do the job. Therefore whatever happens Justin Edinburgh you have my support, now go beat Burton and Millwall please.
Thanks Mighty - I just think a lot of passion has been lost from the modern game and people tend to only want to churn out the negative stuff and not the positive's of a situation. Passion big word, or very small word in today's game overtaken by the word plastic. It dishearten's me when I travel to grounds and my home turf, much & much the same, no passion any more, there was a time when you stood by your team through thick and thin, half my lot would have taken where we are now before the beginning of the season, yeah ok we messed up but at least JE was honest early on and said we were punching above our weight. But like I said in the OP we still punched harder than Coventry and Blackpool, so not bad by my reckoning
Good write up BRB. We all know that Dack is due to go....I just hope that we can keep the nucleus of a team that can give us at least the same chance next season.......
